Create a Cretify Instagram Reel
Create and export a branded Cretify launch reel using Canva Free.
Introduction
30 Second Summary
Potential clients often decide whether a brand feels credible within the first few seconds of a social post. A vague opening can lose their attention before the agency name even lands.
In this project, you will use Canva Free to create a short vertical Cretify launch reel for Instagram. You will shape the reel around honest concept visuals before closing with DM START.
What You'll Build
You'll press play on a polished vertical reel that carries viewers from Cretify's opening promise to a clear DM START action.
By the end of this project, you'll have:
- A four-second branded opener where the hook leads into the lowercase cretify wordmark.
- Honest concept design proof that shows desktop and mobile ideas with Concept design visible on every scene.
- A downloadable high-resolution MP4 with readable text, commercially usable stock audio, and a direct call to action ending on DM START.
- Secret Mission: Build a second four-second hook and compare which opening earns attention faster.
Are there any prerequisites?
No editing experience or existing Canva account is required. You only need a Windows device with internet access.
The workflow stays at $0 when you choose Canva Free content.
Before We Start
Before you build the Cretify launch reel, lock in the audience promise that keeps every scene focused. Your one-sentence promise names who Cretify wants to attract and what that viewer should feel or do after watching.
Set Up Your Free Reel Workspace
You are starting without editing software or brand assets. The reel needs a free workspace where your audience promise can take shape.
You'll use Microsoft Edge to open Canva Free in the browser. You finish this step with lowercase cretify visible in a working reel preview.
In this step, get ready to:
- Confirm Microsoft Edge is available on your Windows device.
- Create your free Canva account.
- Create a blank vertical Instagram Reel with a visible preview of cretify.
Check Microsoft Edge
Canva supports Edge as a desktop browser. Checking for it first gives the editor a reliable place to run.
- Press the Windows key to open Windows search.
- Type Microsoft Edge into the search field.
- Check whether Microsoft Edge appears in the search results.
✔️ Microsoft Edge is listed
Great, Microsoft Edge is ready to become your reel workspace.
- Select Microsoft Edge from the search results.
You'll see a browser window open.
ⓧ Microsoft Edge is missing
Installing Edge adds the supported browser you need for the Canva editor.
- Open the official Microsoft Edge download page in any available browser.
- Choose the Windows download offered on the page.
- Approve the Windows permission request if it appears.
- Follow the installer prompts until setup completes.
- Press the Windows key to return to Windows search.
- Type Microsoft Edge into the search field.
- Select Microsoft Edge from the search results.
You'll see a browser window open once the installation is ready.
Create a blank Instagram Reel
The blank Reel format gives you a vertical 9:16 canvas without locking you into a paid template. Canva may ask you to verify your account before it opens the editor.
- Select the address bar at the top of Edge.
- Enter https://www.canva.com/create/reels/.
- Press Enter.
- Choose the free sign-up option when Canva prompts you.
- Select your preferred email or account service.
- Complete any account verification that Canva requests.
- Select Create a blank Instagram Reel.
Good, your browser workspace is live. You'll see a blank vertical canvas with the timeline at the bottom of the editor.
Why Canva for this reel?
Canva keeps the full beginner workflow inside one browser workspace. You can build the reel without switching editing tools.
Build your first visible screen
A visible text element turns the blank canvas into the first real Cretify asset. The timeline lets you preview that element as part of a video.
- Click the design title field in the top bar.
- Enter Cretify Launch Reel as the design name.
- Select Text in the left sidebar.
- Select Add a text box.
- Type cretify into the text box.
- Position the text box inside the canvas so the whole word remains visible.
Before you preview, do you expect cretify to remain visible when the timeline plays?
- Select Play to preview the timeline.
You'll see lowercase cretify on the vertical canvas during the preview. This confirms that the editor and timeline are working.
Preview Not Showing Cretify?
- Confirm the text box sits completely inside the vertical canvas.
- Confirm the current page appears in the timeline at the bottom of the editor.
- Update Edge from the official Microsoft Edge download page if Canva reports a browser compatibility problem.
Ask for help: Help me check why my lowercase cretify text does not appear when I preview my Canva Reel.
That's your first visible win: the Cretify reel now exists and plays in Canva. Next, you'll turn this plain title into a branded opening hook.
Build a Branded Hook
Your blank Cretify reel proves the Canva editor works. The lowercase title still lacks the visual system that makes an agency launch feel deliberate.
A consistent visual hierarchy makes the promise easy to scan. In this step, you will turn the title into an approximately four-second branded opener.
In this step, get ready to:
- Build a three-color Cretify visual identity.
- Turn the existing title into an approximately four-second opener.
- Preview the branded opener with one restrained text animation.
Create the visual identity
A limited palette creates brand consistency across every frame. Midnight gives the opener a dark base for bright text.
- Select the reel page on the canvas.
- Select the background color control in the toolbar above the canvas.
You'll see the page color options for the selected canvas.
- Enter #0B1020 to set the background to Midnight.
You'll see the vertical canvas change to a deep navy color.
- Select the lowercase cretify text from earlier.
- Choose one free sans-serif typeface from the font menu in the toolbar.
You'll see the wordmark update while keeping its lowercase spelling.
- Confirm the selected typeface has no crown icon.
- Select the text color control in the toolbar.
You'll see the color options for the wordmark.
- Enter #FFFFFF to set the wordmark to White.
You'll see the lowercase wordmark stand out against the Midnight background.
- Add a simple line from the shapes area in the left sidebar.
- Place the line directly beneath the wordmark.
You'll see a simple underline beneath the white type.
- Select the line on the canvas.
- Select its color control in the toolbar.
You'll see the available colors for the line.
- Enter #7C3AED to set the line to Electric Violet.
The violet line now adds a clear accent beneath the white wordmark.
Why keep the wordmark simple?
Canva permits fonts in a trademark. It also permits simple shapes plus lines.
Other Canva library content cannot be used in a trademark. This project does not provide trademark clearance for the Cretify name.
Build the four-second opener
Visual hierarchy controls what a viewer reads first. The hook should lead before the Cretify name arrives.
- Select Text in the left sidebar.
- Select Add a text box.
You'll see a new text box on the reel canvas.
- Type Your website should do more than look good. into the text box.
- Apply the same free sans-serif typeface used for the wordmark.
The hook now shares one consistent type style with the Cretify name.
- Set the hook text color to #FFFFFF.
- Position the hook in the upper half of the canvas.
You'll see the hook lead the layout above the lowercase wordmark.
- Select the hook text on the canvas.
- Use its timing bar in the timeline to make it begin at the start.
The hook timing now starts with the page.
- Select the lowercase cretify wordmark.
- Move its timing bar so the wordmark begins after the hook appears.
The wordmark is now timed to follow the opening message.
- Select the Electric Violet line beneath the wordmark.
- Match its timing to the wordmark.
You'll see the violet accent arrive with the Cretify name.
- Select the page clip in the timeline.
- Adjust its right edge until the duration is approximately four seconds.
The timeline now contains a compact opener with enough time to read the hook.
Animate the hook text
Good motion pacing gives each message time to land. One restrained effect keeps attention on the hook.
- Select the hook text on the canvas.
- Select Animate in the editor toolbar.
You'll see the available text animation effects.
- Choose Fade from the free effects.
The hook now has one restrained animation applied to it.
Before you preview, which message do you expect your eye to notice first?
- Click the play control above the editor.
You'll see the hook appear first. The lowercase cretify wordmark follows in the same visual style.
The opener should finish in approximately four seconds with readable text throughout.
Is the opener out of sequence?
- Move the wordmark timing bar later if both text elements appear at once.
- Match the violet line timing to the wordmark if the accent appears separately.
- Reapply Fade to the selected hook text if it stays static.
Ask for help: Help me fix my Cretify opener timing.
That first polished preview is a real creative milestone. Your reel now opens with a recognizable Cretify identity.
Next, you'll add clearly labelled concept scenes that give the agency promise visual proof.
Create Honest Concept Proof
The branded opener in Canva now gives Cretify a clear promise. A prospective client still needs visual proof of the agency's design thinking.
Simplified concept interfaces reveal how Cretify approaches website design. A visible label keeps each invented screen honest.
In this step, get ready to:
- Build three simplified interface scenes in the Cretify visual style.
- Label every invented interface as Concept design.
- Play the complete silent rough cut from beginning to end.
Build the desktop concept scene
A concept interface uses simple shapes to demonstrate visual hierarchy. Its purpose is to show how Cretify might organise a website screen.
Why label concept work?
The Concept design label tells viewers that the interface is an original demonstration. That clarity lets Cretify show design ability without implying that the screen belongs to a real client.
- Use the page control beneath the opener in the Canva editor from earlier to add one blank scene.
You'll see a new empty page after the approximately four-second opener.
- Select the new page background to reveal its color control in the top toolbar.
- Enter #0B1020 to apply Midnight.
You'll see the new scene change to the same Midnight background as the opener.
- Use the shapes area in the left sidebar to add a large rounded rectangle near the center of the page.
- Set the rounded rectangle to White with #FFFFFF.
You'll see a wide white card that can represent a desktop browser window.
- Add a thin horizontal line near the top of the white card.
- Set the line to Electric Violet with #7C3AED.
The violet line gives the browser card a clear top edge.
- Add three small circles near the upper-left corner of the card.
- Set the circles to Midnight with #0B1020.
You'll see a simple browser frame built entirely from shapes.
- Add Concept design near the top of the browser card.
- Add Design with purpose. as the main message inside the card.
You'll see the scene's status label above its main design message.
- Apply the free sans-serif typeface from the opener to both text boxes.
The typography now matches the Cretify wordmark.
- Set Concept design to Electric Violet with #7C3AED.
- Set Design with purpose. to Midnight with #0B1020.
Good work. Your first concept scene now demonstrates a desktop idea while clearly identifying it as concept work.
Create the mobile concept scenes
The next scenes extend the proof to a phone layout. Reusing the same palette creates brand consistency across the reel.
- Use the page control beneath the desktop concept scene to add another blank scene.
You'll see a second empty concept page in the timeline.
- Select the new page background to reveal its color control.
- Enter #0B1020 to apply Midnight.
The new page now carries the Cretify background color.
- Add a tall rounded rectangle near the center of the page.
- Set the tall rectangle to White with #FFFFFF.
You'll see a white card shaped like a phone screen.
- Add a thin horizontal line near the top of the phone card.
- Set the line to Electric Violet with #7C3AED.
The phone card now has a simple header area.
- Add a small rounded rectangle near the bottom of the phone card.
- Set the small rectangle to Electric Violet with #7C3AED.
You'll see a simple button shape inside the phone interface.
- Add Concept design near the top of the phone card.
- Add Built for every screen. as the main message inside the card.
The second concept scene now connects responsive design with a clearly labelled phone interface.
- Apply the free sans-serif typeface from the opener to both text boxes.
- Set Concept design to Electric Violet with #7C3AED.
The label now matches the visual treatment used in the desktop scene.
- Set Built for every screen. to Midnight with #0B1020.
You'll see the message stand out clearly against the white phone card.
- Use the page control for the phone scene to duplicate it.
- Replace Built for every screen. with Made to guide action. on the copied scene.
You now have three concept scenes after the opener. The copied Concept design label remains visible on the final phone card.
Does a scene look inconsistent?
- Compare its background with the Midnight background used on the other concept scenes.
- Check that its text uses the same free sans-serif typeface as the opener.
- Confirm that its interface uses only free text, simple shapes, or lines.
Ask for help: Help me identify why one Canva concept scene looks inconsistent with the other Cretify scenes.
Play the silent rough cut
An uninterrupted preview tests whether the sequence feels connected. This first watch focuses only on the story created by the opener plus the three concept scenes.
- Leave audio out of the rough cut.
- Leave decorative transitions out of the rough cut.
Before you press Play, do you think the four scenes will feel like one continuous story or four separate cards?
- Move the playhead to the beginning of the opener.
- Preview the entire rough cut by selecting Play.
You'll first see Your website should do more than look good. with the lowercase cretify wordmark.
You'll then see the labelled desktop scene with Design with purpose..
The next phone scene shows Built for every screen..
The final phone scene shows Made to guide action..
The silent scene changes feel abrupt. That visible shortfall is the intended result of this rough cut.
Missing a concept scene?
- Check that the timeline contains the opener plus three additional scenes.
- Confirm that every invented interface visibly includes Concept design.
- Check that each concept scene contains only one main message.
Ask for help: Help me check why my Canva rough cut is missing a Cretify concept scene or label.
That's the proof layer complete. Next, you'll turn the abrupt silent cut into a paced reel with consistent motion, suitable audio, and a direct call to action.
Add Rhythm, Audio, and a Call to Action
Your silent rough cut already proves Cretify's design thinking. Its abrupt scene changes weaken the motion pacing.
The motion controls in Canva give every message room to land. Licensed stock audio carries that rhythm through the reel.
A direct final frame converts the viewer's attention into a clear Instagram action.
In this step, get ready to:
- Pace the scenes with one or two consistent free animations.
- Add one free Canva stock music track with verified commercial use.
- Finish the reel with a direct final frame.
Balance motion and scene timing
Consistent animation creates visual hierarchy without distracting from the words. Each scene also needs enough time for a viewer to read its message.
Timing controls can feel fiddly at first. The timeline gives you an immediate visual check after every adjustment.
- Select the Design with purpose. text in the first concept scene.
- Choose Animate from the editor toolbar.
- Apply the free Fade effect.
- Repeat Fade on the main message in each remaining concept scene.
- Select the opener in the timeline.
- Use Duration to keep the opener near four seconds.
- Set each concept scene to about four seconds.
Before you preview, picture which concept message you expect to feel shortest.
- Preview the current sequence with Play.
You should see the branded opener first. Each concept message should then fade into a readable scene.
Does the pacing still feel abrupt?
- Check that Fade is applied to the main message on all three concept scenes.
- Increase the duration of any scene that changes before you can read its message once.
Ask for help: Help me identify why the Canva scenes still feel rushed after I applied Fade and adjusted their durations.
Add commercially usable stock audio
Music gives the scene changes a shared pulse. The track still needs a license that supports Cretify's promotional use.
Licensing is worth slowing down for here. Canva shows the usage status in the track details before you commit to the music.
Why check the audio details?
A stock track marked Commercial use allowed can support this agency launch reel under Canva's content rules.
A track marked Popular music ⬝ Only personal use allowed cannot support this commercial purpose. A crown icon also identifies paid content outside this free workflow.
- Select Audio in the editor side panel.
- Select Apps if the Audio tab is missing.
- Select Audio from the available apps.
- Preview one stock music track with no crown icon.
- Open that track's details.
- Confirm that the details say Commercial use allowed.
- Select the verified track to add it to the reel.
You should see a colored audio track beneath the visual scenes in the timeline.
- Select the colored audio track in the timeline.
- Trim the end of the track to match the end of the reel.
- Preview the reel with sound using Play.
You should hear one continuous music track beneath the opener and all three concept scenes.
Can't add a suitable free track?
- Return to the audio results if the selected track has a crown icon.
- Remove the track if its details do not say Commercial use allowed.
- Choose a quieter section of the track if the music competes with the written messages.
Ask for help: Help me choose a free Canva stock track that supports a commercial reel without overpowering the text.
Finish with a direct call to action
A call to action tells an interested viewer what to do next. This final frame turns the agency message into one specific Instagram response.
- Select the final Made to guide action. concept scene in the timeline.
- Select Add media/blank in the timeline.
- Choose Blank to create the final scene.
You should see a new blank scene after the three concept scenes.
- Use Duration to set the final scene near four seconds.
- Select the blank scene's background.
- Enter #0B1020 in the color control.
The final scene should now use the same Midnight background as the rest of the Cretify identity.
- Select Text in the editor side panel.
- Select Add a text box.
- Enter Ready for a website that works?.
- Format the question with the free sans-serif typeface from the opener.
- Set the question in #FFFFFF.
You should see the closing question clearly against the Midnight background.
- Select Add a text box again.
- Enter the lowercase wordmark cretify.
- Match the wordmark styling from the opener.
- Select Add a text box once more.
- Enter DM START.
- Set DM START in Electric Violet #7C3AED.
- Place DM START where it forms the strongest text on the final frame.
- Apply the free Fade effect to the final frame text.
Before you press Play, predict whether the final action will still feel clear after the music begins.
- Preview the full reel from beginning to end with sound using Play.
What should I see?
- The complete reel runs for approximately 20 seconds.
- The opening hook Your website should do more than look good. appears first.
- All three concept scenes retain their visible Concept design labels.
- Each message remains readable before the next scene begins.
- The verified stock music plays throughout the reel.
- The final frame shows Ready for a website that works?, cretify, and DM START.
You have transformed the deliberately flat rough cut into a paced launch reel. The viewer now gets rhythm plus a clear next move.
Does the final preview feel unfinished?
- Extend any scene that changes before its message can be read once.
- Reduce the music volume if it pulls attention away from the written story.
- Increase the size of DM START if the final action does not dominate the closing frame.
Ask for help: Help me diagnose why the final Cretify reel still feels rushed or unclear during playback.
Your reel now carries its message from the first hook through DM START. Next up, you'll export the MP4 and check that the finished result works outside the editor.
Export and Check the Reel
Your Cretify reel now combines a branded opener with honest concept scenes. It also closes with a direct call to action.
A polished Canva timeline only becomes useful when its exported file still reads clearly outside the editor. This step checks the free assets before testing the story with sound and without sound.
In this step, get ready to:
- Check every visual item and audio item for free-use warning signs.
- Review the complete reel with sound and without sound.
- Export the reel as a high-resolution MP4 file and play it from the Windows Downloads folder.
Review every asset
A free-only export depends on every visual item and audio item remaining free. One overlooked asset can trigger a payment prompt or leave a watermark in the result.
- Move through the Cretify Launch Reel timeline one scene at a time.
- Select each visual item on the current scene.
- Confirm that the selected item shows no crown icon.
- Replace any item that shows a crown icon with free text, simple shapes, or lines.
- Remove any item that triggers a payment prompt.
- Replace any item that shows a watermark.
- Return to each concept scene.
- Confirm that Concept design remains visible on every concept scene.
Why keep the concept labels?
The Concept design label tells viewers that each interface demonstrates Cretify's design thinking. It keeps your presentation honest because the scenes do not claim to show completed client work.
- Switch back to the music track you checked earlier.
- Confirm that the track has no crown icon.
- Confirm that its details still state Commercial use allowed.
That is an important check completed. Your editable reel now contains only reviewed assets while preserving the honest concept labels.
Test the story with sound and muted
The sound-on review tests the rhythm created by your music and scene timing. The muted review proves that the visual story can still guide an Instagram viewer who has audio turned off.
- Preview the reel from beginning to end with sound.
- Confirm that the music remains audible throughout the reel.
- Confirm that every message remains readable before its scene changes.
- Mute the preview.
- Preview the reel from beginning to end again.
- Confirm that the story remains clear without sound.
- Confirm that every Concept design label remains readable.
- Confirm that no scene remains after its message is understood.
With sound, you should hear the music while each message stays readable. Muted, you should still understand the opening problem before reaching the final DM START action.
Does the muted story feel unclear?
- Check that the opening hook appears before the Cretify wordmark.
- Lengthen any scene whose message disappears before you can read it.
- Shorten any scene that remains after you understand its message.
Ask for help: Help me identify why my Cretify reel is unclear when viewed without sound.
Export and play the finished reel
An MP4 export turns the editable timeline into the shareable version of your reel. Playing that file outside Canva confirms that the text, timing, music, labels, and final action survived the export.
- Use Canva's video download option to export the whole Cretify Launch Reel design as a high-resolution MP4.
- Save the file in the Windows Downloads folder.
- Press the Windows key to open the search bar.
- Type File Explorer and press Enter to open it.
- Select Downloads in the left sidebar.
- Rename the downloaded file to Cretify Launch Reel.mp4 if its name differs.
Before you play it, do you expect the complete reel to survive the export unchanged?
- Double-click Cretify Launch Reel.mp4 to play it.
- Watch it from the opening hook through the final frame.
You should see readable text from the opening hook through every Concept design label. The final frame should show DM START.
You should hear the music throughout the exported reel. You should see no watermark on any scene.
Does the exported reel have a problem?
- Check the Windows Downloads folder for the most recent MP4 file if Cretify Launch Reel.mp4 is missing.
- Return to the Canva design if the exported file contains a watermark or payment prompt.
- Replace the affected asset with a free item that has no crown icon.
- Preview the Canva design with sound if the exported music is missing.
- Download the whole design again after correcting the affected item.
Ask for help: Help me troubleshoot my exported Cretify Launch Reel MP4.
You have a finished launch asset that works beyond the editor. Your high-resolution reel now plays from the opening hook through the final Cretify call to action.

That is a wrap! Your high-resolution Cretify MP4 now carries viewers from a bold opening hook through honest concept scenes to the final DM START frame.
You learned how to:
- Built a Cretify launch reel in Canva using vertical video storytelling to carry viewers from the agency promise to a direct call to action.
- Applied brand consistency through a reusable three-color visual identity. Used the same system on the lowercase cretify wordmark plus every clearly labelled Concept design scene.
- Polished the silent rough cut with commercially usable stock audio. Verified the final export through a complete playback quality check.
- Secret Mission: Created the four-second Cretify Alternate Hook opener as a competing angle. Compared it with the original to identify the clearer message for a prospective client.
