Make a Flyer with Claude and Canva
Create a verified event flyer with Claude and Canva for print or WhatsApp.
Introduction
30 Second Summary
People often decide whether to attend an event after glancing at a single image on their phone. One unclear date or buried action can lose them before they read the rest.
In this project, you will turn confirmed event notes into a polished flyer with Claude Design and Canva. You will use AI for speed while keeping your original notes as the source of truth.
What You'll Build
Your finished flyer will make the event name, date, and next action easy to spot on a phone or a printed page.
By the end of this project, you'll have:
- A mobile-friendly flyer where confirmed event details follow a clear visual hierarchy.
- A WhatsApp-ready PNG image plus a PDF Print file that opens with the full design intact.
- A reusable four-part prompt plus a completed pre-print checklist for checking future flyers against their original notes.
- Secret Mission: Duplicate your Canva design to create a second event version with new confirmed details.
Are there any prerequisites?
You need a real event with confirmed details. You also need a phone or tablet with Claude and Canva accounts.
A browser on macOS, Windows, or Linux works as a fallback.
Before We Start
A real event needs a clear source of truth before AI writes or designs anything. Commit to one event with confirmed, safe-to-share details plus one action readers should take after seeing the flyer.
Generate a Quick Poster Draft
Your confirmed event notes give this project a clear source of truth. This step turns those notes into a fast first draft in Claude Design.
A deliberately vague request gives you a poster quickly. It forces Claude to guess the tone, priority, and amount of text.
In this step, get ready to:
- Get both design tools ready on your available device.
- Review the privacy boundary for event notes.
- Generate a brief first poster that exposes Claude's assumptions.
Get Claude and Canva ready
Claude Design creates the first visual draft. Canva needs to be ready for the editing stage that follows.
- Tap the Claude app icon on your phone or tablet.
- Sign in to Claude with your account.
- Install Canva from the App Store or Google Play if the app is missing.
- Tap the Canva app icon on your phone or tablet.
- Sign in to Canva with your account.
- Sign in to browser-based Claude on macOS, Windows, or Linux if the mobile route is unavailable.
- Sign in to browser-based Canva on the same computer.
You should see Claude's message box. Canva should show its home screen.
Generate the deliberately brief poster
Your source notes are already confirmed for the event. It is worth slowing down here because a public flyer never needs private credentials.
- Read this safety line before pasting anything: Do not put private details such as a home address, bank or ID numbers, passwords, or one-time passcodes in a flyer or AI chat.
Claude Design turns a message into visual work. This first request deliberately leaves the creative choices open.
- Tap Claude's message box.
- Select Output.
- Select Design.
- Generate a one-page event poster by entering this prompt with your safe event notes:
Create a one-page event poster from these notes: [[EVENT_NOTES="paste your safe event notes"]].
What Does This Prompt Leave Open?
The prompt supplies your notes without defining an audience, tone, hierarchy, or text length.
Claude must make those creative choices. The result gives you a baseline to evaluate.
- Submit the prompt from Claude's message box.
Claude generates a one-page event poster from your brief request. This is your intentionally under-specified first draft.
Find one assumption in the draft
Before you inspect the poster closely, do you think every creative choice came from your original notes?
- Open the poster full screen from the Artifacts tab on mobile.
- Open the poster result in Claude if you are using the computer fallback.
- Place your original event notes beside the poster.
- Inspect the poster's tone, headline priority, amount of text, and layout.
- Point to at least one guessed, weak, or incorrect choice.
You should now have at least one choice to improve.
That shortfall is intentional. The brief request made Claude choose without enough direction.
If You Get Stuck
Use this fallback if the visual result does not load.
- Switch to a normal Claude chat.
- Ask Claude for poster text using the same safe event notes.
- Use the result as your first draft for the next step.
That first draft did its job by exposing a choice your prompt left to Claude. Next, you will give Claude clearer direction for the final words.
Write and Refine the Flyer Copy
Your first Claude Design poster proved that a draft can appear quickly. The vague request also forced Claude to guess the tone.
A four-part prompt gives Claude a clear role. It defines the writing task.
The prompt also supplies confirmed facts. Its final instruction tells Claude to mark missing information instead of inventing it.
In this step, get ready to:
- Complete a reusable four-part prompt with your confirmed event details.
- Shorten the flyer copy with two focused refinements.
- Apply the verified copy to your Claude Design poster.
Complete the four-part prompt
The first poster lacked enough direction. This prompt gives Claude the audience context, writing goal, confirmed facts, and desired style.
- Return to the Claude conversation containing your first poster.
- Select the message box below the poster.
- Build your completed prompt from the original source notes by copying this template:
Who I am: [[LEARNER_ROLE="your role"]]
What I want: Write short flyer text for [[EVENT_NAME="your confirmed event name"]].
My situation:
- Event name: [[EVENT_NAME="your confirmed event name"]]
- Date: [[EVENT_DATE="your confirmed date"]]
- Day: [[EVENT_DAY="your confirmed day of week"]]
- Time: [[EVENT_TIME="your confirmed time"]]
- Venue: [[EVENT_VENUE="your confirmed public venue"]]
- Contact: [[PUBLIC_CONTACT="your confirmed public contact method"]]
- Deadline: [[DEADLINE="your confirmed deadline"]]
How it should look: Friendly. Use a large headline. Keep the text short. End with one clear action.
Use only the details above. If anything is missing, write [CHECK] instead of guessing.
How do the four parts help?
- The Who I am section gives Claude your point of view.
- The What I want section defines the writing task.
- The My situation section limits the facts to your original notes.
- The How it should look section defines the tone. It sets the length. It names the final action.
- Fill each highlighted field with the exact wording from your source notes.
- Enter none in the deadline field if your event has no deadline.
- Leave the [CHECK] instruction unchanged.
- Send the completed prompt to Claude.
You'll see a structured version of the flyer copy. Any detail missing from your completed prompt should appear as [CHECK].
- Compare the response with your original source notes.
- Tell Claude the exact confirmed wording for any factual mismatch.
- Use your device's text-copy control to copy the completed prompt from your message.
- Switch to a notes app or plain-text editor.
If you get stuck
Fill one highlighted field at a time from your source notes. Keep [CHECK] wherever a fact still needs confirmation.
Ask for help completing the prompt without inventing event details.
- Create a note titled Reusable flyer prompt.
- Paste the completed prompt into the note.
Refine the copy in two passes
Iterative refinement changes one requirement at a time. Each response shows the effect of one focused instruction.
- Refine the current draft for brevity by sending this message:
Make it shorter.
What does this refinement do?
This instruction asks Claude to remove repetition. The essential event facts and reader action should remain.
- Read the shortened response from beginning to end.
You'll see fewer words around the same confirmed details. The result should be easier to scan.
Copy still too long?
Check whether Claude repeated the venue, contact method, or reader action. Point to the repeated part when you ask for another shorter version.
Ask for help identifying words that can be removed without losing confirmed details.
- If your source notes contain a deadline, add the exact value by sending this message:
Add this deadline: [[DEADLINE="your confirmed deadline"]].
Why add the deadline separately?
A separate refinement makes the deadline change easy to inspect. It also keeps Claude tied to the confirmed value from your notes.
- Check that no deadline was added if your source notes say none.
- Read the revised copy after the deadline update if your event has one.
The deadline should now appear once in the copy. Its wording should match your source notes.
Deadline looks different?
Compare every number and word with the deadline in your source notes. Send the exact confirmed value again if Claude changed it.
Ask for help correcting the deadline without changing the rest of the flyer copy.
- Compare every factual detail in the final copy with your source notes.
- Tell Claude the exact correction for each mismatch.
- Confirm that the first line works as a large headline.
- Confirm that the final line gives the reader one clear action.
- Use your device's text-copy control to copy the final flyer text.
- Switch back to your notes app or plain-text editor.
- Create a note titled Verified flyer copy.
- Paste the final flyer text into the note.
Apply and verify the final copy
Your original notes remain the source of truth for every event detail. The saved copy is ready for the poster once it matches those notes.
- Ask Claude Design to update the poster by sending this message:
Apply the final copy to the poster.
What happens to the poster?
Claude Design replaces the earlier wording with your refined copy. The updated version should include the headline, confirmed details, and clear reader action.
- Wait for Claude Design to finish updating the poster.
- Open the Artifacts tab.
- Select the updated poster to view it full screen.
You'll see your refined copy applied to the original design. The earlier guessed wording should be replaced.
Poster did not update?
Check that you sent the update request in the conversation containing the first poster. Select the poster from the Artifacts tab after Claude finishes responding.
Ask for help applying the final copy to the existing Claude Design poster.
Before you compare the poster with your notes, do you expect every detail to match on the first check?
- Place the original source notes beside the updated poster.
- Compare the event name with the source notes.
- Compare the full event schedule with the source notes.
- Compare the public venue with the source notes.
- Compare the public contact method with the source notes.
- Compare the deadline with the source notes.
- Confirm that every unknown detail remains marked [CHECK].
- Confirm that the copy ends with one clear reader action.
What does this comparison prove?
The comparison separates generated wording from confirmed information. Your source notes decide which details belong on the finished flyer.
- Give Claude the exact source wording for every remaining mismatch.
- Ask Claude to apply every confirmed correction to the poster.
- Repeat the checklist after the corrected poster appears.
Every factual detail now matches your original notes. The final copy is short and ends with one clear action.
You have closed the gap from the vague first draft. Claude now supplies the speed while your confirmed notes control the facts.
Your flyer now has verified words plus a clearer Claude Design draft. Next, you'll turn that copy into an editable flyer with Canva.
Design the Flyer in Canva
Your improved Claude Design poster has accurate copy with one clear reader action. The next job is turning those words into a flyer you can control at normal phone size.
Canva gives you a purpose-built flyer template with direct editing control. In this step, you will turn your verified copy into a readable design.
In this step, get ready to:
- Choose a simple free flyer template.
- Replace the sample content with your verified copy and a relevant image.
- Make the event name, date, and reader action stand out.
Why Canva After Claude Design?
Claude Design gave you a quick draft for improving the message. Canva now gives you direct control over the final layout.
Your Verified Flyer Copy remains the wording for the design. This keeps the speed of the draft without giving up control of the finished flyer.
Choose a simple free template
A template gives your flyer an existing structure. You can complete this design without buying premium content.
- Switch back to the Canva app on your phone or tablet.
- Return to the Canva browser tab from earlier if you are using macOS, Windows, or Linux.
- Tap the search box on the Canva home screen.
- Enter flyer in the search box.
- Select a simple template that does not show a payment prompt.
You should see the chosen template open in Canva's editor with sample words and imagery ready to replace.
Add your verified copy and image
Template text is only a placeholder. Your Verified Flyer Copy supplies the event's confirmed message.
- Tap the template's sample headline.
- Replace the sample headline with the headline from your Verified Flyer Copy.
- Replace each remaining sample text block with the matching part of your Verified Flyer Copy.
- Tap the template's sample image.
- Choose a relevant free Canva image or upload a safe personal image as its replacement.
- Remove any leftover sample words from the template.
You should now see your event's real words beside an image that matches its purpose.
Create a clear visual hierarchy
Visual hierarchy controls what the reader notices first. Your event name, date, and reader action need the strongest emphasis.
How Does Visual Hierarchy Work?
Larger type pulls attention toward key details. Strong contrast keeps those details readable.
Removing unnecessary decoration creates space around the information that matters. A quick glance should reveal the event and the next action.
- Choose one main color that suits the event.
- Adjust the other colors so the text has clear contrast.
- Enlarge the event name.
- Enlarge the date information.
- Enlarge the reader action.
- Remove any element that makes the flyer feel crowded.
Before you check, which three details do you expect your eyes to notice first?
- View the flyer at normal phone size without zooming.
You should immediately notice the event name, date, and reader action. The remaining details should stay readable without zooming.
If You Get Stuck
- Keep the template's existing layout.
- Change only the words.
- Replace one photo.
- Choose one main color.
That is the design work complete. Your editable Canva flyer now presents the verified message with a relevant image and clear priorities.
Your Canva flyer is readable and ready for its accuracy check. Next, you will compare every important detail with your original event notes before sharing it.
Fact-Check Every Detail
Your Canva flyer is readable at normal phone size. A polished design can still mislead people when one detail changes during editing.
In this step, you will treat the Event Source Notes as the source of truth. You will correct every mismatch. You will also record one issue from the AI draft.
In this step, get ready to:
- Check every flyer detail against the Event Source Notes.
- Correct every mismatch in Canva.
- Complete a pre-print checklist with one recorded AI issue.
Check the event basics
Visual hierarchy draws attention to the most important information. Accuracy comes from comparing that information directly with the Event Source Notes.
- Place the Event Source Notes beside the Canva Flyer on one screen or two devices.
- Confirm the event name matches the Event Source Notes exactly.
- Confirm the date matches the Event Source Notes exactly.
- Confirm the day of week matches the Event Source Notes exactly.
- Confirm the time matches the Event Source Notes exactly.
- Confirm the venue matches the public venue in the Event Source Notes.
- Return to the Canva Flyer.
- Correct every mismatch from this group.
Good work. You should now see five completed checks. The event basics on your flyer now match the confirmed notes.
Verify the response details
The public contact method tells readers where to respond. The deadline tells them when to act.
- Confirm the public contact method matches the Event Source Notes exactly.
- Confirm every name uses the spelling recorded in the Event Source Notes.
- Confirm the deadline matches the Event Source Notes or is omitted when the notes say none.
- Confirm the flyer ends with the intended reader action from the Event Source Notes.
- Return to the Canva Flyer.
- Correct every mismatch from this group.
Treat Generated Details as Unverified
AI and image tools can get dates or phone numbers wrong. A generated detail becomes trustworthy after it matches the Event Source Notes.
You should now see all nine checklist items completed. Every corrected detail should match the Event Source Notes exactly.
If You Get Stuck
- Read each original detail aloud.
- Point to its matching detail on the Canva Flyer.
Help me compare my event flyer with my source notes one detail at a time.
Record what needed fixing
Recording a flaw turns this fact-check into a reusable lesson. Your example may cover a wrong fact or unclear wording.
- Review the Claude Design First Poster beside the corrected Canva Flyer.
- Choose one factual issue or one style problem from the AI draft.
- Record one sentence describing what needed fixing.
Before the final check, do you expect all nine details to match the Event Source Notes? Keep your answer in mind.
- Display the corrected Canva Flyer at normal phone size.
- Place the completed Pre-Print Checklist beside the flyer.
- Compare every completed check with the Event Source Notes one final time.
- Confirm the recorded sentence names one issue from the AI draft.
All nine checklist items should be complete. Your recorded sentence should name one fact or presentation choice that needed fixing.
You have done the careful part. Your editable flyer now matches the Event Source Notes. Next, you will prepare separate files for printing and messaging.
Export for Print and WhatsApp
Your fact-checked Canva flyer is ready in its editable form. This final step turns that design into two files for different jobs.
A PDF Print file keeps the complete flyer ready for printing. A PNG stays readable on a phone for WhatsApp.
In this step, get ready to:
- Export the corrected Canva Flyer as a PDF Print file.
- Export the corrected Canva Flyer as a PNG file.
- Verify both downloaded files against the completed Pre-Print Checklist.
Download the print-ready PDF
The PDF Print format gives your corrected flyer a dedicated file for printing. This export should display the complete design without cutting off any content.
- Switch back to the corrected Canva Flyer from earlier.
- Select Share.
- Select Download.
- Choose PDF Print as the file type.
- Take a screenshot showing PDF Print selected.
- Select Download.
- Confirm the PDF Print file appears in your device's downloaded files.
That is your print copy secured: the complete corrected flyer now has its own PDF Print file.
Download the WhatsApp PNG
The PNG format turns the flyer into an image that is easy to attach to a message. It should remain readable at normal phone size.
- Return to the corrected Canva Flyer in Canva.
- Select Share.
- Select Download.
- Choose PNG as the file type.
- Take a screenshot showing PNG selected.
- Select Download.
- Confirm the PNG file appears in your device's downloaded files.
Your phone-friendly image now sits alongside the print copy.
If You Get Stuck
A payment prompt can feel like a blocker. You can finish this project without buying the premium element.
- Return to the editable Canva Flyer.
- Remove the premium element that triggered the payment prompt.
- Replace it with a free element.
- Repeat the PDF Print download.
- Repeat the PNG download.
Help me identify the element blocking my free Canva download.
Open and verify both files
Before you check, which file do you expect to look clearest on paper?
- Open the downloaded PDF Print file.
- Confirm the entire flyer fits inside the PDF Print file.
- Close the PDF Print file.
- Open the downloaded PNG file.
- View the PNG at normal phone size without zooming.
- Confirm every item from the completed Pre-Print Checklist matches the Event Source Notes in both files.
- Leave the PNG saved on your device for attachment to a WhatsApp message.
You'll see the complete flyer in the PDF Print file. The PNG remains readable at normal phone size.
Your sharing kit is complete: the checked PDF Print export is ready for printing. The checked PNG is ready for WhatsApp.
