What You'll Build

By the end of this project, you'll have:

Set Up Your Workspace

Without a clear folder structure, your briefs, templates, and prompts end up scattered across your machine. Finding the right file becomes harder with every new video you produce.

In this step, you'll create a dedicated workspace folder and set up a clean file structure using Claude Code. This gives you one organized home for all your content production work from day one.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Create your project folder on the Desktop.
  • Use Claude Code to generate a file structure for briefs, templates, and prompts.
  • Confirm everything is in place in VS Code Explorer.
Create your project folder

You need a dedicated folder to hold all your brief files, templates, and prompt libraries. You'll create it on the Desktop so it's easy to find.

  • Press Cmd+Space (macOS) or the Windows key (Windows) to open your search bar.
  • Type Visual Studio Code and press Enter to open it.
  • Open the integrated terminal by pressing Ctrl+` on your keyboard.
  • Move to your Desktop by running this command:
cd ~/Desktop
  • Create your project folder and open it in a new VS Code window by running these commands:
mkdir datapot-content-briefs
cd datapot-content-briefs
code .

What do these commands do?

  • mkdir datapot-content-briefs creates a new folder called datapot-content-briefs on your Desktop.
  • cd datapot-content-briefs moves your terminal into that new folder.
  • code . opens a new VS Code window with this folder as the workspace.

A new VS Code window opens with datapot-content-briefs shown in the Explorer sidebar on the left. The folder is empty for now.

Seeing 'command not found' for code?

The code command needs to be installed in your system PATH. In VS Code, press Cmd+Shift+P (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows), type Shell Command: Install 'code' command in PATH, and press Enter. Then try again.

Create the file structure with Claude Code

You need three files to organize your work: one for the actual brief, one for a reusable template, and one for your prompt library. Instead of creating each file manually, you'll ask Claude Code to set up the entire structure in one go.

  • In the new VS Code window, click the Claude Code icon in the Activity Bar (the left-hand sidebar with icons) to open the Claude Code panel.
  • Type the following prompt in the Claude Code chat input and press Enter:

What does this prompt do?

Claude Code has built-in file tools that can create, read, and edit files directly in your workspace. This prompt tells it to create three empty Markdown files, each inside its own subfolder.

  • briefs/ holds your actual production briefs (one per video topic).
  • templates/ holds reusable templates you'll fill in for each new video.
  • prompts/ holds your prompt library so you never rewrite the same research prompt.

Claude Code will confirm that it created the folders and files. You may need to click Allow if Claude Code asks for permission to create files in your workspace.

Claude Code not responding?

Make sure you opened the correct VS Code window (the one showing datapot-content-briefs in the title bar). If you're still in the old window, Claude Code won't see your project folder.

Confirm the folder structure

Before you move on, take a moment to predict what your workspace should look like. You asked Claude Code to create 3 files in 3 folders. What do you expect to see in the Explorer panel?

  • Look at the Explorer panel on the left side of VS Code. Expand any collapsed folders by clicking the arrow next to them.

You should see this structure:

  • Click on fabric-apps.md in the Explorer. It opens as an empty file in the editor. This is where your Fabric Apps brief will live.

Don't see all 3 folders?

Your briefs/fabric-apps.md file now has a Raw Research section with solid technical knowledge about Fabric Apps. But raw research is just raw material. It tells you WHAT the topic is, not HOW to turn it into a video.

A video concept answers the questions your CEO will ask before hitting record: Who is this for? What do they get from watching? How is the video structured? Claude Code can draft all of this based on the research it already wrote.

Review and adjust the concept

Claude Code drafted the concept, but you know Datapot's audience better than any AI. This is where your editorial judgment matters most.

  • Read the Video Concept section and ask yourself these questions:
  • Does the target viewer description match real Datapot learners?
  • Would any of the three titles make YOU click on YouTube?
  • Does the video structure flow logically from intro to demo to recap?
  • If anything feels off, tell Claude Code directly what to change. For example, paste this follow-up prompt and adapt it to your feedback:

Why review matters here

Claude Code is your research assistant, not your content director. It can draft structure based on patterns it has seen, but only you know which title style performs best on Datapot's channel, or whether 15 minutes is too long for your viewers.

Making adjustments now saves your CEO from asking questions later during filming.

This project runs entirely locally, so there are no ongoing costs. All files are Markdown on your machine, and Claude Code usage is covered by your company plan.

Resources you created:

  • Folder datapot-content-briefs on your Desktop (contains all brief, template, and prompt files).
  • File CLAUDE.md (Claude Code memory file at the root of the project folder).

Decide whether to keep your resources, pause them to come back later, or delete them entirely.

Keep everything running

No action needed. Choose this if you plan to use this workspace for your next video brief.

  • Your datapot-content-briefs folder stays on your Desktop, ready for the next topic.
  • Claude Code will continue reading CLAUDE.md automatically each time you open the project.
  • Consider pushing the folder to GitHub or OneDrive so you have a backup if your machine is lost.

Since everything is local Markdown files, there is nothing to shut down or pause. The files sit idle on disk with no resource usage.

  • Close VS Code when you are done. No processes remain running.
  • When you return, open VS Code and use File > Open Folder to reopen datapot-content-briefs.
  • Claude Code will re-read CLAUDE.md and pick up where you left off.

Delete - I don't want to use this again

Remove the entire project folder from your machine. This deletes all briefs, templates, prompts, and the memory file.

  • Close VS Code first so no files are locked.
  • On macOS or Linux, open Terminal and run:
rm -rf ~/Desktop/datapot-content-briefs
  • On Windows, open PowerShell and run:
Remove-Item -Recurse -Force "$HOME\Desktop\datapot-content-briefs"
  • Confirm deletion by running ls ~/Desktop (macOS/Linux) or ls $HOME\Desktop (Windows). The folder datapot-content-briefs should no longer appear.
