Find Student Discounts with AI

Find out how much you could save every month at your uni.

Introduction

30 Second Summary

Your student ID gets you discounts on more than you'd think. Free software, cheaper transit, discounted movie tickets, even a gym you might already pay for in your fees.

In about 45 minutes, you'll hunt down the deals on campus, around campus and across the country with Claude's web search, then build a Student Discount Dashboard in the same chat that adds them up into one number, the amount you could save every month.

What You'll Build

Open your dashboard and your number is right at the top, the amount you could keep each month. Tap Campus, Near campus or National to see exactly where it comes from, with a link to every deal.

By the end of this project, you'll have:

  • Every student deal you can use, sorted into Campus, Near campus and National, each with an official link and expiry date.
  • A Student Discount Dashboard with one big "I could save" number.
  • One deal you've already claimed, so the savings start this week.
  • Secret Mission: Make a campus edition with made-up numbers and share it with your class or club group chat.

Are there any prerequisites?

You only need a Claude Free account. You must be at least 18, be in a location supported by Claude, and have access to a supported text-capable phone number if Claude asks for one.

Before We Start

Before you build the Student Discount Dashboard, decide what stays out of the AI chats so a savings hunt never exposes your banking details. Treat those details like the PIN on your card: use rounded category totals or made-up numbers, and keep exports, account numbers, card numbers, transaction IDs, passwords, and merchant histories to yourself.

Find Your Campus Perks

Your university may already include perks that replace bills you pay elsewhere. The quickest win is finding those benefits before looking beyond campus.

You will create one free Claude account and use its web search to check your university's own website. Every result you keep will have an official page you opened yourself.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Create your Claude Free account.
  • Search your university website for campus perks.
  • Open and save every official perk link.
Create your Claude Free account
  • Open claude.ai in your browser.
  • Select Continue with email or Continue with Google.
  • Complete the account prompts with an email address you control.
  • Enter the six-digit text code if Claude asks you to verify your phone number.
  • Select Verify code.
  • Check that you can start a new Claude conversation.

Your Claude Free account is ready when you can start a conversation. That gives you one place to research the deals and build the dashboard.

Can't finish the account setup?

Ask for help with setting up Claude without sharing private details. If the issue continues, share only non-sensitive symptoms in the NextWork community.

Search your university website

Campus perks are benefits your university already provides or officially promotes. Search the university's own pages first so each result has a source you can trust.

  • Start a new conversation in Claude.
  • Find current campus perks by sending this prompt:
Search the web using only the official website for [[UNIVERSITY="your university"]] for current student perks.

Look for free software, transit benefits, gym access, printing, food support, and student AI plans.
For every result, include the perk name, published benefit, eligibility, official university URL, expiry or "Not stated," and date checked.
Only include a result when an official university page supports it.
Do not request bank data, account details, passwords, or transaction history.

Search once, keep the results

Claude Free usage resets every five hours, and web searches count toward it. Run each search once, then keep the results in NextWork Your Work.

You should see a Campus list with official university links and source citations. If Claude does not search, use the + button beside the message box to enable Web search.

Why search the university website?

Claude's web search gathers possible matches, but the university page is the evidence. Opening the source protects your list from outdated or invented offers.

Open and save the campus perks
  • Open the official link for each result once.
  • Check that each page supports the benefit and student eligibility.
  • Remove any result whose official page does not open or support the perk.
  • Copy the checked Campus results from Claude.
  • Paste the checked results into Your Work in the current NextWork project.
  • Keep this Claude conversation open for Steps 2 and 3.
  • Press Cmd+Shift+4 on macOS or Windows+Shift+S on Windows to capture the checked Campus results.

You should now have a Campus list backed by university pages you opened yourself. That is your first set of usable student savings.

Your campus perks are checked. Next, you will continue in the same Claude conversation to look just beyond campus and across the country.

Build the First Money Map

Find Near-Campus and National Deals

Your Campus list now shows what your university already unlocks. The next search stretches that map to places nearby and programs available across your country.

You will continue the same Claude conversation and use web search to find deals with addresses and national student plans that match your subscriptions. Near-campus results can be thin, so a short checked list is better than a long list of claims you cannot open.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Find student deals near your campus.
  • Find national programs that match your subscriptions.
  • Keep only deals supported by an official page you can open.
Search beyond campus

Nearby deals are only useful when you know where to go. National programs matter when they reduce a subscription you already use.

  • Return to the Claude conversation from Step 1.
  • Find Near campus and National deals by sending this prompt:
Search the web for current student savings in two groups.

1. Near campus: student deals near [[CAMPUS_LOCATION="your campus address or neighbourhood"]]. Include the street address and walking distance or neighbourhood.
2. National: student programs in [[COUNTRY="your country"]] that match these subscriptions: [[SUBSCRIPTIONS="subscription names you use or none"]].

For every result, include the name, spending category, published benefit, official source URL, eligibility, expiry or "Not stated," date checked, and a cautious monthly saving estimate with its assumption.
Only include an offer when an official business or program page supports the benefit and student eligibility.
If nearby results are thin, return fewer results. Do not pad the list with unverified offers.
Do not request bank data, account details, passwords, or transaction history.

You should see a Near campus group with location details and a National group shaped around your subscriptions. A small nearby group is a valid result when few businesses publish student offers online.

Getting few nearby results?

Check that web search is active and that the campus location includes a city or neighbourhood. You can also ask for help refining the search without sharing private financial information.

Check every official page

Finding an offer is only the lead. The official page confirms whether the deal exists, where it applies, and who can claim it.

  • Open the official page for the first Near campus result.
  • Check that the page supports the student offer and street address.
  • Remove the result if its official page does not open.
  • Repeat the check for each remaining Near campus result.
  • Open the official page for each National result once.
  • Remove any National result whose page does not support the offer or eligibility.

What counts as checked?

Keep the published saving separate from your monthly estimate. The estimate depends on how often you expect to use the deal, so leave its assumption visible.

Save the checked deals
  • Copy the checked Near campus and National groups from Claude.
  • Paste both groups beneath the Campus results in NextWork Your Work.
  • Check that every Near campus deal includes an address.
  • Check that every retained deal includes an official link and expiry or Not stated.
  • Press Cmd+Shift+4 on macOS or Windows+Shift+S on Windows to capture the three checked groups.

Your work page should now show Campus, Near campus, and National deals. Every offer you kept has an official page you opened, and every nearby deal tells you where to find it.

Your deal list is checked and the Claude conversation holds both searches. Next, you will add four broad spending numbers and turn the research into an interactive dashboard in that same chat.

Hunt for Savings Candidates

Build Your Student Discount Dashboard

You now have three checked deal groups with official links. The next step turns that research into one screen and one monthly savings number.

You will continue in the same Claude conversation and create an interactive Artifact. Four rough monthly totals give the dashboard enough context without exposing a bank statement.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Enable Claude's Artifact capability.
  • Choose four privacy-safe monthly spending totals.
  • Build and check the Student Discount Dashboard in the same Claude conversation.
Enable Artifact creation

Claude creates interactive Artifacts with its cloud code capability. Enable it before asking for the dashboard so the finished view can open beside your conversation.

  • Select Settings in Claude.
  • Select Capabilities.
  • Enable Cloud code execution and file creation.
  • Check that the setting remains enabled after you leave the page.

The capability is ready when its setting remains enabled. Claude can now create the interactive panel beside your chat.

Can't enable Artifact creation?

Check that you are signed in to the Claude Free account from Step 1 and that the capability remains enabled. You can also ask for help without sharing private account details.

Choose four monthly numbers

The dashboard only needs a rough monthly ceiling for four parts of student life. Use rounded totals, or use the example numbers if you would rather not use your own.

  • Open Your Work in the current NextWork project.
  • Create your four-number summary by completing this template:
Food: [[FOOD_SPEND="rough monthly food spend or example 250"]]
Transport: [[TRANSPORT_SPEND="rough monthly transport spend or example 60"]]
Subscriptions: [[MONTHLY_SUBSCRIPTIONS_SPEND="rough monthly subscription spend or example 35"]]
Going out: [[GOING_OUT_SPEND="rough monthly going-out spend or example 80"]]

Keep the numbers broad

Think of these as the four labels on a budget envelope. Rounded or made-up totals are enough, so keep bank exports, account numbers, card numbers, passwords, and transaction histories out of the project.

  • Save the completed four-number summary in NextWork Your Work.
  • Check that it contains only food, transport, subscriptions, and going out.
Build the Student Discount Dashboard

A Claude Artifact can place your checked deals and four spending totals on one interactive screen. The number at the top shows how much of that spending the available deals could reduce.

  • Copy the four-number summary and checked research from NextWork Your Work.
  • Return to the same Claude conversation you used in Steps 1 and 2.
  • Paste the copied summary and checked research into the message area.
  • Add the dashboard instructions by pasting this prompt beneath them:
Create an interactive Artifact titled "Student Discount Dashboard" using only the four monthly spending totals and checked research above.

Use these four spending totals:
Food: [[FOOD_SPEND="rough monthly food spend or example 250"]]
Transport: [[TRANSPORT_SPEND="rough monthly transport spend or example 60"]]
Subscriptions: [[MONTHLY_SUBSCRIPTIONS_SPEND="rough monthly subscription spend or example 35"]]
Going out: [[GOING_OUT_SPEND="rough monthly going-out spend or example 80"]]

Group every retained deal into Campus, Near campus, or National.
For Near campus deals, show the address and walking distance or neighbourhood.
For every deal, show its spending category, published benefit, eligibility, official source link, expiry or "Not stated," date checked, estimated monthly saving, and visible assumption.
Show one prominent sentence that starts with "I could save" and ends with "a month," using the calculated total in between.
Make the Campus, Near campus, and National groups selectable.
Recalculate the visible savings total when a group is selected.
Do not invent offers, prices, locations, sources, expiry dates, or savings.
Keep all spending data at category level.

What does this prompt build?

The prompt gives every checked deal a labelled place and keeps the saving assumption visible. The dashboard adds those estimates into one monthly total without needing any transaction-level data.

  • Send the completed message to generate the Claude Artifact.
  • Select the Campus group.
  • Select the Near campus group.
  • Select the National group.
  • Check that each group shows official links and recalculates the visible total.
  • Check that every nearby deal includes its address.
  • Press Cmd+Shift+4 on macOS or Windows+Shift+S on Windows to capture the finished dashboard.

Claude may need about a minute to build the interactive view, so a short pause is normal. You should then see a Student Discount Dashboard with one prominent "I could save" number and three selectable groups.

Dashboard did not open?

Confirm that the full four-number summary, checked research, and dashboard prompt are in the same conversation. Check that Cloud code execution and file creation remains enabled.

Help me troubleshoot the missing Student Discount Dashboard.

That is the dashboard working: checked deals in three groups and one number showing the possible monthly saving.

Your dashboard shows where the savings are. Next, you will turn one of those possibilities into a deal you have actually claimed.

Create a Weekly Savings System

Claim One Deal Now

Your dashboard has turned checked offers into a clear savings number. Now you will make that number real by claiming one deal you can use.

This final required step closes the loop between finding a discount and receiving it. You will capture safe proof without exposing account or payment details.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Claim one deal from your dashboard.
  • Capture proof of the completed claim.
Claim one deal now

A claim may ask you to verify your student status or create an account. Choose a deal you genuinely want, and switch to another deal if the process asks for a payment you did not plan to make.

  • Open your Student Discount Dashboard.
  • Choose one deal you can claim or join now.
  • Open the deal's official link.
  • Read the eligibility and claim requirements.
  • Complete the official claim or sign-up flow.
  • Hide your email address, student number, payment details, and verification codes on the confirmation screen.
  • Press Cmd+Shift+4 on macOS or Windows+Shift+S on Windows to capture the safe confirmation.

You have moved one deal from possible to claimed. Your screenshot should show the confirmation without exposing private account or payment details.

Claim did not complete?

Check the official eligibility rules and confirm that your student details match them. You can also ask for help with the claim without sharing private details.

Optional: get new deals every Monday

This optional extra uses a free ChatGPT scheduled task. It needs a separate free ChatGPT account, and you can complete the project without creating one.

  • Open chatgpt.com in your browser.
  • Create a separate ChatGPT Free account with an email address you control.
  • Start a new conversation.
  • Create the optional Monday radar by sending this prompt:
Every Monday morning, search for newly published student savings for [[UNIVERSITY="your university"]], [[CAMPUS_LOCATION="your campus address or neighbourhood"]], and [[COUNTRY="your country"]].

Group results into Campus, Near campus, and National.
Match National results to these subscriptions: [[SUBSCRIPTIONS="subscription names you use or none"]].
For Near campus deals, include the street address and walking distance or neighbourhood.
For every result, include the spending category, benefit, official source URL, eligibility, expiry or "Not stated," and date checked.
Only include results supported by an official university, program, or business page that opens.
Do not request or use my spending data, bank data, account details, passwords, or transaction history.

Finding Scheduled can be a little fiddly because availability depends on the account and workspace. Follow the path that matches what you see after sending the prompt.

✔️ Scheduled is available

Your optional radar can now run every Monday without seeing your spending summary.

  • Open Scheduled in ChatGPT.
  • Check that the task is active with an Every Monday morning schedule.
  • Choose Push, Email, or both for notifications.

ⓧ Scheduled is unavailable

Skip this optional extra if Scheduled is unavailable. Your claimed deal and Claude dashboard already complete the project.

That is the required project complete: one deal is already claimed. If you added the optional radar, ChatGPT can now look for the next one each Monday.

Build a second Student Discount Dashboard with rounded or fictional spending. You can share this version with a class or club while your real budget stays private.

Clean Up Your Resources

Clean Up Your Resources

This project has no ongoing cloud or API cost. If you created the optional ChatGPT Monday radar, decide whether to keep, pause, or delete that task.

Resources you used:

  • Your active Monday-morning ChatGPT task, if you completed the optional section in Step 4.

Keep everything running

No action is needed if you created the optional radar and want it to keep checking for deals. Review each result before adding it to your dashboard.

  • Review the optional radar results each Monday.
  • Open each retained source once before keeping the deal.

Pause - I'll come back to this later

Pause the optional Monday search if you want a break without throwing away the task. Your Claude conversation, Student Discount Dashboard, and NextWork notes remain available.

  • Open Scheduled in ChatGPT.
  • Select the Monday deals-radar task.
  • Select Pause.

Delete - I don't want to use this again

Delete the optional Monday task if you do not want ChatGPT to run the search again. Your Claude Artifact and NextWork notes stay available unless you remove them separately.

  • Open Scheduled in ChatGPT.
  • Select the Monday deals-radar task.
  • Select Delete to remove the task.
