Find Internships with AI
Build an internship radar that finds new roles for you every morning.
Introduction
30 Second Summary
Imagine opening ChatGPT in the morning to find five new internships that match your resume, each scored out of 100 with a short note on why it suits you.
In this project, you will build that radar on ChatGPT's free plan and see your first scored internships within 10 minutes. Once it's running, it keeps looking for new roles every day, even after you close the tab, and your best matches go into a simple Google Sheet.
What You'll Build
Every morning, ChatGPT drops a fresh shortlist into your chat with the role, the company, a direct link and a score that shows which lines on your resume earned it.
By the end of this project, you'll have:
- An Internship Radar that runs every morning on eligible ChatGPT Free accounts.
- A career brief that keeps the radar focused on roles you actually fit.
- A tracker of the roles worth your time, each with a link and your next move.
- Secret Mission: Research one company from your radar and send a message to someone who works there.
Are there any prerequisites?
Bring a Mac or Windows computer with internet access, a Google account, a resume, and a free ChatGPT account. Scheduled tasks appear only on eligible Free accounts, so the project also gives you a manual morning option that stays at $0.
Before We Start
Before you build the radar, pick the internship you want it to look for. Think of this like typing a destination into Maps: a clear role and region stop every later search from wandering.
Set Up Your Free Search Workspace
Run Your First Internship Search
A useful internship radar should prove itself before you spend time tuning it. Your first result arrives from the resume you already have, so you can judge the idea within 10 minutes.
You will create a personal ChatGPT project, paste a redacted resume, and run one scored search. The result is a shortlist of up to five current roles with direct links and one-line fit notes.
In this step, get ready to:
- Create a personal ChatGPT project for your search.
- Paste a resume with private contact details removed.
- Run your first scored internship search.
Create your personal ChatGPT project
Your resume gives the search useful evidence, but it may also contain details the radar does not need. Turn off model training first, then keep the project private by leaving sharing switched off.
- Open ChatGPT in your browser.
- Sign in with an account you personally control.
- Open your account menu.
- Select Settings.
- Select Data controls.
- Turn off Improve the model for everyone.
You should see Improve the model for everyone switched off. New conversations on this account are no longer used to train OpenAI's models.
- Select New project in the sidebar.
- Enter Internship Radar as the project name.
- Create the project without sharing it.
Your search now has a home. You should see Internship Radar in the sidebar.
Redact and paste your resume
The radar needs your education, skills, projects, and relevant experience. It does not need your phone number, street address, personal ID numbers, or anyone else's contact details.
- Create a copy of your resume.
- Remove your phone number from the copy.
- Remove your street address from the copy.
- Remove personal ID numbers and references' contact details from the copy.
- Paste the redacted resume into the first chat inside Internship Radar.
- Send the resume with this sentence above it:
Use this redacted resume as the evidence for my internship searches. Never invent experience, achievements, dates, eligibility, or preferences. Never apply for a role or send a message for me.
That is the sensitive part handled. The chat should now show your career evidence without private contact details.
See private details after pasting?
Delete that message, remove the private details from your resume copy, and paste the redacted version again. Do not continue with a phone number, street address, personal ID number, or another person's contact details in the chat.
Help me check what to redact.
Run the first scored search
The first search uses your resume as-is. This gives you a baseline before the shorter career brief sharpens the radar in Step 2.
- Record the country where you want to search: your target country.
- Record your preferred city, region, or remote preference: your preferred city, region, or remote preference.
- Run your first radar search by sending this prompt:
Before you send it, which part of your resume do you expect to earn the strongest matches?
Search the web for up to five current internships in [[TARGET_COUNTRY="your target country"]] that fit my redacted resume and [[TARGET_REGION="your preferred city, region, or remote preference"]].
Search official company career pages first. Also check LinkedIn Jobs and the main job board in my country, such as JobStreet in the Philippines, Naukri in India, or SEEK in Australia and New Zealand. Do not rely on Handshake.
Return these columns:
Role | Company | Direct link | Fit score out of 100 | One-line fit
Rules:
- Link directly to the individual job posting, not a search results page.
- Score only evidence visible in my redacted resume and the job posting.
- Treat the score as an estimate for prioritising roles, not a grade.
- Include only roles whose pages identify the same internship and employer.
- Do not guess missing requirements, dates, or eligibility.
- Return fewer than five roles when fewer current matches are available.
How should you read the score?
The fit score is ChatGPT's estimate to help you prioritise, not a grade. A high score points to matching evidence, but you still decide whether the role deserves your time.
There is your first payoff. You should see up to five internships with a company, a direct job link, a score out of 100, and one line explaining the fit.
Missing direct links or fit notes?
Run the complete prompt again if a row links to search results or lacks a resume-based fit note. Keep fewer results instead of accepting unverifiable roles.
Help me check my first radar result.
Your radar already produces a shortlist. Next, you will give it three sharper signals and compare what changes.
Create Your Career Brief
Sharpen Your Career Radar
Your first radar turned a redacted resume into a scored shortlist. Now you will make the search more selective without inventing a longer profile.
A three-part career brief gives ChatGPT the choices a resume cannot fully explain. You will define target titles, connect each top skill to evidence, and state where and how you want to work.
In this step, get ready to:
- Create a three-part career brief.
- Correct unsupported claims and missing preferences.
- Rerun the radar and compare the shortlist.
Create the three-part career brief
The brief acts like three filters placed over the first search. Titles set the direction, resume examples keep skills honest, and work preferences remove roles you would not pursue.
- Return to the chat containing your redacted resume and first shortlist.
- Generate the shorter brief by sending this prompt:
Create a factual three-part internship career brief from my redacted resume and these preferences:
Country: [[TARGET_COUNTRY="your target country"]]
Location or work preference: [[TARGET_REGION="your preferred city, region, or remote preference"]]
Return only:
1. Up to three target internship titles supported by my resume.
2. Up to five top skills, each tied to one specific resume example.
3. My location and work preferences, including on-site, hybrid, or remote when known.
Write "Ask me" for a preference my resume and answers do not provide. Do not add industries, profile summaries, gaps, contact details, or unsupported claims.
You should see exactly three sections: target titles, evidence-backed skills, and location or work preferences.
- Trace each listed skill to the resume example beside it.
- Remove any title or skill your resume does not support.
- Answer each Ask me item with your real preference.
- Tell ChatGPT to treat the corrected version as your approved career brief.
Your brief is ready when all three sections contain only resume evidence and choices you made yourself.
Missing one of the three parts?
Ask ChatGPT to regenerate only the missing section. Keep the final brief to the same three sections instead of adding a longer profile.
Help me check the three-part brief.
Rerun and compare the radar
The second search uses the same sources and output as the first. The only meaningful change is the approved brief, so any shift in titles or scores shows what the sharper context changed.
- Run the focused search by sending this prompt:
Before you send it, do you expect the shortlist to become narrower or simply reorder the same roles?
Rerun my Internship Radar using the approved three-part career brief and my redacted resume.
Search official company career pages first. Also check LinkedIn Jobs and the main job board in my country, such as JobStreet in the Philippines, Naukri in India, or SEEK in Australia and New Zealand. Do not rely on Handshake.
Return up to five current matches with these columns:
Role | Company | Direct link | Fit score out of 100 | One-line fit
Rules:
- Link directly to the individual job posting.
- Score only evidence in my approved brief, redacted resume, and the job posting.
- Treat the score as an estimate for prioritising roles, not a grade.
- Return fewer than five roles when fewer current matches are available.
- Do not guess missing requirements, dates, or eligibility.
You should see a new shortlist shaped by the three approved filters. Some roles may move, disappear, or receive a different score because the radar now knows your target titles and work preferences.
- Compare the role titles in the first and second shortlists.
- Compare the fit scores for any role that appears twice.
- Check that every one-line fit points to a resume example or approved preference.
That comparison proves the brief is doing real work. Your radar now prioritises roles against a short set of choices you reviewed.
Results look unchanged or unfocused?
Check that you sent the focused prompt after approving the corrected brief. If the results still ignore a preference, state that preference once more and rerun the focused prompt.
Help me compare the two searches.
Your radar now knows what belongs in the shortlist. Next, you will place it on a morning schedule and give the strongest roles a six-column home.
Build a Source-First Finder
Schedule and Track Your Radar
Your focused radar now ranks roles against three choices you approved. The next job is to make that shortlist easy to receive and easy to act on.
You will schedule a flexible morning run on eligible Free accounts, then create a six-column Google Sheets tracker. One manual link check keeps a broken or mismatched posting out of the sheet.
In this step, get ready to:
- Schedule the morning Internship Radar or set up its $0 manual fallback.
- Create a tracker with six columns.
- Check one direct link before tracking the role.
Schedule the morning radar
OpenAI currently limits scheduled-task availability by account. Eligible Free accounts can run a daily task in a flexible morning window, while accounts without Scheduled can use the same tested prompt manually for $0.
- Return to the chat containing your approved brief and focused search.
- Request the recurring radar by sending this instruction:
Create a recurring task named Morning Internship Radar. Run it every morning in this chat.
On each run, use my approved three-part career brief and the redacted resume text in this chat. Search official company career pages first. Also check LinkedIn Jobs and the main job board in my country, such as JobStreet in the Philippines, Naukri in India, or SEEK in Australia and New Zealand. Do not rely on Handshake.
Return up to five new current roles with:
Role | Company | Direct link | Fit score out of 100 | One-line fit
Treat each score as an estimate for prioritising roles, not a grade. Do not repeat an earlier role unless its posting shows a meaningful update. Return fewer than five when fewer current matches are available. Never apply for a role.
Choose the result that matches what your account shows.
✔️ Scheduled is available
Your account can schedule the radar. Free schedules use a flexible morning window rather than an exact delivery time.
- Open Scheduled in ChatGPT.
- Open Morning Internship Radar.
- Confirm that the task is active.
- Confirm that its next run uses the morning window.
You should see an active daily task with its next morning run. The radar can now continue after you close the tab.
ⓧ Scheduled is missing
Your Free account does not currently expose scheduled tasks. Keep the same workflow at $0 by returning to this chat each morning.
- Bookmark the Internship Radar project in your browser.
- Return to the focused search prompt each morning.
- Send the focused search prompt to generate that day's shortlist.
You should see the same five-column shortlist when you run the tested prompt manually.
Cannot create the morning task?
Check whether Scheduled appears on ChatGPT web, because availability depends on the account and app version. If it remains absent, use the manual morning path instead of upgrading for this project.
Help me choose the scheduled or manual path.
Create the six-column tracker
A short tracker should answer two questions at a glance: which role is worth attention, and what happens next. Six columns are enough to keep that decision visible.
- Open a new spreadsheet from Google Sheets.
- Rename the spreadsheet to Internship Radar Tracker.
- Select cell A1.
- Create the six headers by pasting this tab-separated row:
Role Company Link Fit score Status Next action
You should see the headers fill cells A1 through F1. Every row below them stays empty until a role passes the link check.
Check one link and add the role
A score can save you reading time, but it cannot prove that a posting is still live. Open the link once before the role enters your tracker.
- Choose one promising role from your latest shortlist.
- Open its Direct link.
- Confirm that the page names the same role.
- Confirm that the page names the same company.
- Confirm that the page still accepts applications.
That single check protects the tracker from stale or mismatched listings. Skip the role if any of those three details fail.
- Add the checked role to the next empty row.
- Copy its company and direct link into the matching columns.
- Enter its estimated score under Fit score.
- Enter Interested under Status.
- Enter one concrete move, such as Tailor resume, under Next action.
You should now see one checked role across all six columns. The link opens the same live posting you chose from the radar.
Job page does not match?
Remove the row when the link is broken, names a different role, or no longer accepts applications. Return to the shortlist and check another direct link before adding a replacement.
Help me check a role before tracking it.
Your Internship Radar is ready for daily use. It finds a short list, shows the evidence behind each estimate, and keeps your next move beside every role you choose.
Secret mission
Research One Company and Send One Message
Research one company from your radar and send one message to someone who works there. You check the facts, review the words, and press Send yourself.
Clean Up Your Resources
Clean Up Your Resources
Your ChatGPT project and Google Sheet cost $0 to keep. Leave the morning routine active, pause an eligible scheduled task, or delete the workspace when you are finished.
Resources you used:
- ChatGPT project named Internship Radar containing your redacted resume, career brief, and radar searches.
- Scheduled task named Morning Internship Radar if your account supported scheduling.
- Google Sheets spreadsheet named Internship Radar Tracker containing six columns and your checked roles.
Keep everything running
No action is needed. Choose this if the radar is part of your current internship search.
- Open the latest radar result each morning.
- Check one direct link before tracking a role.
- Update each role's Status and Next action as you make progress.
