AI Marketing Assistant for Your Store

Build an AI assistant that generates authentic marketing content for your store.

Introduction

30 Second Summary

You have a digital sticker store, three products listed, and zero customers. The missing piece is not your product. It is marketing content that actually sounds like you wrote it.

In this project, you will build a free AI marketing assistant that generates Instagram captions, content calendars, and SEO-optimized product descriptions in your brand's voice.

What You'll Build

Picture asking your AI assistant "give me this week's Instagram posts" and getting back captions with Malay slang, relevant hashtags, and a full posting schedule that sounds like a real student wrote it.

By the end of this project, you'll have:

  • A custom AI marketing assistant that speaks in your brand voice and understands SPM student culture, so you can generate authentic content on demand.
  • 7 days of ready-to-post Instagram content with full captions, hashtags, and a content calendar planned out for your store launch.
  • Rewritten Payhip product descriptions optimized with search keywords so SPM students can find your store on Google.
  • Secret Mission: Build a complete 7-day Instagram launch campaign with a storyline that builds hype before revealing your products.

Are there any prerequisites?

You need a Google account (Gmail) and an existing Payhip store with products listed. This project uses Google AI Studio which is completely free and runs in your browser.

Before We Start

Before We Start...

Before we dive in, let's lock in what you're about to build and why it matters for getting your first customer.

Set Up Google AI Studio

To build your AI-powered sales machine, you need a tool that can generate marketing content on demand. Not just any AI tool, but one you can customize with your brand's personality and reuse whenever you need fresh content.

Google AI Studio is a free, browser-based playground that gives you access to Google's Gemini AI models. No downloads, no credit card, no subscriptions. You just need your Google account and a browser.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Sign into Google AI Studio with your Google account.
  • Confirm the Playground chat interface is working.
  • Locate the System Instructions field where you'll teach AI your brand voice.
Open Google AI Studio and sign in

Google AI Studio lives entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install.

  • Open your browser and go to aistudio.google.com.
  • Sign in with your Google account when prompted.
  • If you see a terms of service prompt, accept it to continue.

After signing in, Google AI Studio opens the Playground by default. You should see a chat interface ready for you to start typing.

What is Google AI Studio?

Google AI Studio is a free web tool where you can experiment with Google's Gemini AI models. Think of it as a chat interface where you can also set permanent instructions that shape how the AI responds every time.

The Playground is the main area where you type prompts and get responses. It is completely free with no message limits for what you are doing in this project.

Page not loading or sign-in issues?

Make sure you are using a modern browser like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. If sign-in fails, try opening an incognito window and signing into your Google account fresh.

Help me troubleshoot Google AI Studio sign-in issues on Windows

Confirm the Playground chat interface

The Playground is where all your marketing content generation will happen. Let's make sure you can see the key parts of the interface.

  • Look at the bottom of the screen. You should see a text input box labeled Type something... where you will type your prompts.
  • Look at the top-right corner. You should see Run settings that you can click to expand a panel.
  • Confirm you also see the Run button. This is what you click to send your prompts to the AI.

What should I see?

Your screen should show a clean chat interface. The main area is empty (no messages yet), there is a text input at the bottom, and the top-right has controls including Run settings. If you see a different layout, make sure you are on the Playground page, not the API documentation or a different section.

Expand Run settings and find System Instructions

System instructions are how you teach the AI a permanent personality. Every message the AI generates will follow whatever rules you set here. This is the key to making your AI sound like Lokal Digital instead of a generic robot.

  • Click Run settings in the top-right corner to expand the panel.
  • Locate the System Instructions input field inside the expanded panel.
  • Leave it empty for now. You will fill this in during Step 3 when you teach the AI your brand voice.

Why are system instructions so important?

Without system instructions, the AI responds in a generic, corporate tone. With system instructions, you can define exactly who the AI is, who it talks to, and how it should sound. It is the difference between an AI that says "Elevate your digital experience!" and one that says "Korang confirm relate with this one."

Before moving on, do you think the AI will produce good Instagram captions for your sticker store right now, without any system instructions? Keep your prediction in mind.

You should now see the Google AI Studio Playground with the chat input at the bottom, the Run settings panel expanded showing the empty System Instructions field, and the Run button ready to go.

Cannot find Run settings or System Instructions?

Make sure you are on the Playground page, not a different section of Google AI Studio. The Run settings control is in the top-right corner of the Playground. If you do not see it, try refreshing the page.

Help me find the System Instructions field in Google AI Studio

Your AI marketing workspace is ready. Next up, you will put the AI to work by asking it to sell your stickers. Let's see what happens when you give it zero context about your brand.

Ask AI to Sell Your Stickers

Your Google AI Studio Playground is open and ready. Before teaching the AI anything about your brand, you need to see what it produces on its own.

This step is about feeling the gap between generic AI output and content that would actually resonate with SPM students. You'll ask the AI to market your stickers and watch it struggle to sound authentic.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Ask AI to write an Instagram caption for your sticker pack.
  • Ask AI to write a Payhip product description for the same product.
  • Identify why both outputs fail to connect with SPM students.
Ask AI to write an Instagram caption

Your System Instructions field is empty right now. The AI knows nothing about Lokal Digital, your audience, or how Malaysian students talk online. Let's see what happens when you ask it to sell your stickers cold.

  • Click inside the chat input box labeled Type something... at the bottom of the Playground.
  • Type or paste this prompt:
Write me an Instagram caption to sell a digital sticker pack called 'Makan Time! 14-PC Sticker Pack' that costs RM12. The stickers have Malaysian food themes like Teh Tarik and Nasi Lemak. My target audience is SPM students.

Before you click Run, what do you think the AI will write? Do you think it will sound like something an SPM student would actually post on their Instagram?

  • Click the Run button.

Read the AI's response carefully. Notice how it sounds. It probably uses phrases like "Elevate your digital experience!" or "Perfect for food enthusiasts!" that no Malaysian student would ever write.

What should I see?

The AI generates a technically correct caption that mentions your product name, price, and food theme. But the language is formal, stiff, and sounds like it was written by a corporate marketing team.

You will not find any Malay slang, Manglish, or the casual tone that SPM students use when they talk to each other online. This is your "before" baseline.

Not seeing any response?

Make sure you clicked the Run button (not just pressed Enter). The button is at the bottom-right of the chat input area.

If you see an error message, check that you are signed into your Google account by looking at your profile icon in the top-right corner of the page.

Help me figure out why Google AI Studio is not generating a response.

Ask AI to write a product description

One generic caption might be a fluke. Let's test a different format to confirm the pattern.

  • Type this second prompt into the same chat:
Write me a product description for my Payhip store for this same sticker pack.
  • Click the Run button.

Same story. The product description reads like a corporate listing page. It might be grammatically perfect, but it does not sound like something that would make an SPM student stop scrolling and click "buy."

Why does the AI sound so generic?

Without any instructions about who you are or who you are writing for, the AI defaults to safe, formal English. It has no idea that your brand uses Malay slang, speaks like a student, or targets teenagers in Malaysia.

This is the core problem you will solve in the next step. The AI is capable of writing in your brand voice. It just needs to be taught.

Confirm the gap

You now have two AI-generated outputs in your chat history. Both technically describe your product, but neither sounds like something a Malaysian student would write or engage with.

  • Scroll up through your chat to review both responses side by side.
  • Ask yourself: would you post either of these on your Instagram without rewriting them completely?

The answer is almost certainly no. That gap between what the AI produces on its own and what your brand actually sounds like is exactly what you will close next.

You have your baseline. The AI can write about your stickers, but it sounds like a robot in a suit. In the next step, you will teach it to sound like Lokal Digital.

Teach AI Your Brand Voice

In the previous step, you saw what happens when you ask AI to market your stickers without any context. The output was generic, corporate, and completely disconnected from how SPM students actually talk.

Generic AI output will not sell stickers to SPM students. In this step, you will teach the AI who Lokal Digital is by writing system instructions that define your brand personality, target audience, and communication style. This transforms the AI from a generic text generator into a marketing assistant that sounds like an authentic Malaysian student brand.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Write system instructions that define Lokal Digital's brand voice and audience.
  • Re-run your original prompt and compare the output to the generic version.
  • Refine instructions until the AI sounds like an actual Malaysian student brand.
Paste your brand voice instructions

System instructions tell the AI how to behave across every response. Instead of repeating your preferences in each prompt, you set them once and the AI follows them for the entire conversation.

  • In the Run settings panel (top-right corner), find the System Instructions input field.
  • Clear any existing text in the field, then paste the following instructions:
You are the marketing assistant for Lokal Digital, a student-run digital sticker brand.

Target audience: SPM students aged 16-17 in Malaysia.

Tone: Casual, funny, and relatable. Write like a Malaysian student talks to their friends.

Language style:
- Use Malay slang and Manglish naturally (mix of Malay and English)
- Use words like: korang, bestnya, confirm relate, SPM fighter, lah, kan, gila
- Write short, punchy sentences
- Use emojis naturally like students do

Never sound like:
- Corporate marketing copy
- Formal English essays
- Stiff, robotic AI text
- Generic influencer captions

Always include at least one Malay slang word per sentence.

What are system instructions?

System instructions act like a permanent personality layer for the AI. Every response it generates will follow these rules, so you do not have to repeat "sound casual" or "use Malay slang" in every prompt you send.

Think of it as hiring a marketing intern and giving them a brand guide on day one. They reference it for everything they write from that point forward.

Customise to your own voice

These instructions are a starting point. If there are specific slang words you use with your friends, or phrases you would never say, add them. The more personal the instructions, the more authentic the output.

Re-run your prompt and compare

Now for the moment of truth. You will send the exact same prompt from Step 2 and see whether the system instructions actually change anything.

  • Before you run this, predict: do you think the output will sound different, or will the AI still write generic corporate copy?
  • In the chat input at the bottom, type the following prompt and click Run:
Write me an Instagram caption to sell a digital sticker pack called 'Makan Time! 14-PC Sticker Pack' that costs RM12. The stickers have Malaysian food themes like Teh Tarik and Nasi Lemak. My target audience is SPM students.

Read the new response. Compare it to the generic version you got in Step 2.

What should I see?

The output should now include Malay slang words like "korang" or "bestnya." The sentences should feel casual and short instead of formal and wordy. It should sound like something a Malaysian student actually wrote, not a marketing department.

If you scroll up to your Step 2 response, the difference should be dramatic. That contrast is the power of system instructions.

Output still sounds generic?

Make sure you pasted the system instructions into the System Instructions field inside the Run settings panel, not into the chat input box. The chat input is for prompts. The system instructions field is a separate area in the top-right panel.

Also check that you clicked Run after pasting the instructions. The AI only picks up new system instructions on the next run.

Still not working? Why is my AI output still sounding generic even after adding system instructions?

Refine until it sounds right

System instructions rarely work perfectly on the first try. You may need to tweak them based on what the AI gets wrong.

  • Read your output carefully. If certain sentences still sound too formal or use English phrases no Malaysian student would say, go back to the System Instructions field and add specific constraints.
  • Try adding lines like "Never use formal English" or "Never use words like 'elevate', 'enhance', or 'experience'" to block specific corporate-sounding patterns.
  • Add more example phrases if the slang feels forced. For example: "Natural examples of how to start a caption: 'Korang tau tak...', 'Bestnya kalau...', 'Confirm korang pernah...'".
  • After each edit to the system instructions, re-run your prompt by clicking Run and check whether the output improved.

What is prompt engineering?

What you are doing right now is called prompt engineering. It is the skill of writing instructions that get AI to produce the exact output you need. This iterative process of writing, testing, and refining is how professionals use AI tools effectively.

Keep refining until you read the output and think "I would actually post this on Instagram." That is your bar.

Your AI now speaks like a Malaysian student brand instead of a corporate robot. Next up, you will put it to real work by generating a full week of Instagram content ready to post.

Generate Your Instagram Content Calendar

Your AI assistant now speaks in your brand voice. One great caption is exciting, but you cannot launch a store with a single post.

You need a full week of planned content so you can start posting consistently from day one without having to think about what to write each day. In this step, you will generate an entire 7-day Instagram content calendar and reusable hashtag sets, all in your brand voice.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Generate a 7-day Instagram content calendar with full captions and hashtags.
  • Review and refine content for authenticity and variety.
  • Create rotating hashtag sets for consistent posting.
Ask the AI for a full week of content

A strong content calendar mixes different post types to keep your audience engaged. You want product showcases, relatable memes, and engagement posts like polls or questions spread across the week.

Before you send this prompt, think about what you expect. Will the AI maintain your brand voice consistently across 7 full days of content, or will it slip back into generic mode partway through?

  • In the chat input at the bottom of Google AI Studio, type the following prompt and click the Run button:
Create a 7-day Instagram content calendar for Lokal Digital's launch week. I have 3 products: (1) Makan Time! 14-PC Sticker Pack - RM12, Malaysian food stickers, (2) Malaysian Student Life stickers - study themed with phrases like 'Assignment Due Today' and 'Last Minute Study', (3) Malaysian Kantin & Chill - lifestyle stickers like 'Budget Mode' and 'Self-Reward: Boba'. Mix product posts, relatable memes/text posts, and engagement posts (polls, questions). Include full captions with hashtags for each day.

Why is this prompt so detailed?

The more specific information you give the AI, the better the output. By listing all three products with their names, prices, and themes, the AI can spread them across the week naturally.

Asking for a mix of post types (product posts, memes, engagement posts) prevents the calendar from becoming 7 days of "buy my stickers" which would bore your followers.

The AI responds with a full 7-day calendar. Each day should have a post type label, a complete caption with Malay slang, and a set of hashtags.

Output looks too short or missing days?

If the AI only gave you 3-4 days instead of 7, it may have hit a length limit. Type "Continue from Day 5" (or whichever day it stopped at) and click Run again to get the remaining days.

If the captions sound generic or too formal, your system instructions may not be active. Check that the Run settings panel still shows your brand voice instructions in the System Instructions field.

Why is my content calendar missing days or sounding generic?

Review and refine the calendar

Getting a full calendar is only the first step. You need to check each day like a real content creator would before scheduling anything.

  • Read through each of the 7 days and check these three things for every post:
  • Does the caption sound like something a Malaysian student would actually write? Look for Malay slang words and Manglish phrasing.
  • Are the hashtags specific to Malaysian students? Generic hashtags like #stickers or #digitalart will not reach your audience. You want hashtags SPM students actually follow.
  • Is there variety across the week? You should see a mix of product showcases, relatable memes or text posts, and engagement posts like polls or questions.
  • If any day feels weak or too generic, ask the AI to regenerate just that day. For example, type something like: "Day 3 sounds too formal. Rewrite it with more slang and make it funnier." Then click Run.

You are the quality filter

AI generates the raw material, but you decide what actually gets posted. If a caption makes you cringe or feels like something you would never say, tell the AI exactly why and ask it to try again. Your instinct for what sounds authentic is the most valuable thing here.

Once you are happy with all 7 days, you have a launch-ready content calendar. Keep this chat open so you can copy these captions when you set up your Instagram account later.

Generate reusable hashtag sets

Your calendar already has hashtags on each post, but you will run out of fresh combinations quickly. Having pre-built hashtag sets means you can rotate them across future posts without repeating the same tags every day.

  • In the same chat, type the following prompt and click Run:
Now give me 15 hashtag combinations I can rotate across my posts. Mix popular Malaysian hashtags, SPM-related hashtags, and digital sticker hashtags. Group them into sets of 10-12 hashtags each.

Why 15 sets of 10-12 hashtags?

Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags per post, but research shows 10-12 targeted hashtags perform better than 30 random ones. Having 15 different sets means you can post twice a day for a full week without repeating the exact same hashtag group.

The AI responds with 15 grouped sets of hashtags. Scan through them to confirm they include a mix of Malaysian-specific tags, SPM-related tags, and sticker or digital product tags.

  • Save this output by selecting all the hashtag sets in the AI's response and copying them to a notes app or document on your computer. You will use these when posting on Instagram.

Hashtags look too generic?

If you see mostly English-only hashtags like #studylife or #stickershop without any Malaysian-specific ones, ask the AI: "Add more Malaysian and Malay-language hashtags. Include hashtags SPM students in Malaysia would actually search for." Click Run to get an updated set.

Why are my AI-generated hashtags too generic for Malaysian students?

You now have a complete 7-day content calendar with full captions, hashtags, and post types for each day. You also have 15 rotating hashtag sets ready to use across future posts. All of it sounds authentically Malaysian and speaks directly to SPM students.

You have a full week of content ready to post. Next up, you will tackle the other side of getting discovered: making sure students who search on Google can find your Payhip store.

Rewrite Your Payhip Descriptions for Google Search

Your Instagram content is ready to go. Now it's time to tackle the other side of your sales machine: making sure students can find your stickers when they search on Google.

Instagram brings people who are scrolling, but Google brings people who are actively searching to buy. If your Payhip product descriptions contain the words SPM students actually type into Google, your store shows up in their search results.

In this step, get ready to:
  • Generate SEO-optimized descriptions for all 3 products using your AI assistant.
  • Update your Payhip product listings with the new titles and descriptions.
Generate an SEO-optimized description for Makan Time!

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It means writing your product pages with the exact words people type into Google, so your store appears in their results.

Your AI assistant already knows your brand voice from the system instructions. Now you'll ask it to write a product description that weaves in search keywords naturally.

  • Switch back to your Google AI Studio chat.
  • Type the following prompt into the chat input and click the Run button:
I need to rewrite my Payhip product description for 'Makan Time! 14-PC Sticker Pack' (RM12). Make it SEO-friendly: include keywords that Malaysian students might search for like 'digital stickers Malaysia', 'cute stickers SPM', 'Malaysian food stickers', 'digital planner stickers BM'. Keep the tone fun and on-brand, but naturally include these search terms. Also write a compelling product title that includes a keyword.

What does this prompt do?

You're giving the AI two jobs at once: write a catchy product title AND a full description that includes the exact phrases students might Google.

Because your system instructions are still active, the AI will keep the tone casual and Malaysian. The keywords get woven into natural-sounding sentences instead of being stuffed in awkwardly.

  • Read the AI's response. Check that the title includes at least one keyword (like "digital stickers" or "Malaysian food stickers").
  • Check that the description mentions search terms naturally within fun, on-brand sentences.
  • If the description sounds too formal or the keywords feel forced, ask the AI to rewrite it with more slang and a more natural flow.

Keywords should feel invisible

A good SEO description reads like normal, fun copy to a human. The keywords are there, but they do not stick out. If you can spot the keywords immediately, ask the AI to blend them in better.

Generate descriptions for your other two products

The same pattern works for your remaining products. You just need to swap in the correct product details and relevant keywords for each one.

  • Type this prompt for your second product and click Run:
Now do the same for my 'Malaysian Student Life' sticker pack. It's study-themed with stickers that have phrases like 'Assignment Due Today' and 'Last Minute Study'. Include keywords like 'SPM student stickers', 'study planner stickers Malaysia', 'digital stickers for students'. Write an SEO-friendly title and full product description, keeping the same fun tone.
  • Review the output. Confirm the title includes a keyword and the description mentions study-related search terms naturally.
  • Type this prompt for your third product and click Run:
Now do the same for my 'Malaysian Kantin & Chill' sticker pack. It has lifestyle stickers like 'Budget Mode' and 'Self-Reward: Boba'. Include keywords like 'Malaysian lifestyle stickers', 'cute digital stickers Malaysia', 'student life stickers'. Write an SEO-friendly title and full product description, keeping the same fun tone.
  • Review the output. Confirm it mentions lifestyle and student keywords naturally while staying on-brand.

Why different keywords for each product?

Each sticker pack attracts a different search intent. Someone Googling "study planner stickers" is in a different mood than someone searching "Malaysian food stickers." Matching keywords to each product's theme means you cast a wider net across Google.

You now have three SEO-optimized titles and descriptions ready to paste into Payhip.

Update your Payhip product listings

Time to make these new descriptions live on your store. You'll edit each product on Payhip and paste in the AI-generated title and description.

  • Open a new browser tab and go to your Payhip store dashboard.
  • Click Products in the navigation to see all your listed products.
  • Click Edit on Makan Time! 14-PC Sticker Pack.
  • Replace the current product title with the new SEO-friendly title your AI generated.
  • Scroll down to the product description field. Select all the existing text and replace it with the new AI-generated description.
  • Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes.

What should I see?

After saving, your product page now shows the new title and description. You can click View on your product from the Products page to see what customers see.

  • Go back to your Products page and click Edit on Malaysian Student Life.
  • Replace the title and description with the AI-generated versions for this product.
  • Click Save Changes.
  • Repeat for Malaysian Kantin & Chill: click Edit, replace the title and description, and click Save Changes.

Changes not showing on your product page?

Make sure you clicked Save Changes at the bottom of the edit page. If you navigated away before saving, your edits were lost. Go back to Products, click Edit, and paste the description again.

help me check if my Payhip product descriptions saved correctly

Before you check your live store, do you think the changes are visible to customers immediately, or is there a delay?

  • Click View on any of your updated products from the Products page to see the live customer-facing listing.

Your new titles and descriptions are live immediately. Customers see the updated versions right now.

When will Google notice?

Payhip product pages are indexed by Google, but it takes days or weeks for Google to re-crawl and update its results. You will not see your store in search results today.

The important thing is that the keywords are now on the page. When Google next visits, it picks them up and starts matching your products to student searches.

All three of your Payhip listings now speak both languages: the casual Malay slang that makes students feel at home, and the search keywords that help Google find you. Next up, you'll take everything even further with a Secret Mission.

Secret mission

Build a 7-Day Instagram Launch Campaign

Posting random content on day one is less effective than building a storyline that creates curiosity first, then reveals your products. In this secret mission, you'll use AI to design a structured launch campaign that turns your first week from "random new account" into "brand that SPM students want to follow."

Clean Up Your Resources

Clean Up Your Resources

This project runs entirely on free tools, so there are no ongoing costs. Decide whether to keep your resources as-is for continued use, bookmark them for later, or remove them entirely.

Resources you used:

  • Google AI Studio conversation with Lokal Digital system instructions.
  • Lokal Digital Instagram account (newly created).
  • Payhip product description updates (3 products with new SEO-optimized copy).

Keep everything running

No action needed. Choose this if you plan to keep using your AI marketing assistant and posting your launch content.

  • Your Google AI Studio conversation is saved to your Google account automatically. You can return to aistudio.google.com anytime and ask for new marketing content using your existing system instructions.
  • Your Payhip product descriptions are live immediately and will start appearing in Google search results as the pages get indexed.
  • Your Lokal Digital Instagram account is ready to go. Start posting your 7-day launch campaign whenever you like.

Pause - I'll come back to this later

Bookmark your key resources so you can find them easily when you return. Nothing costs money while idle.

  • Bookmark your Google AI Studio chat URL in your browser so you do not lose your system instructions.
  • Save your 7-day content calendar and hashtag sets somewhere accessible (a Google Doc or your phone's notes app) in case the AI Studio chat history gets cleared.
  • Your Payhip descriptions stay live with no action needed.
  • Your Instagram account stays active even if you do not post for a while.

Delete - I don't want to use this again

Remove all project resources if you want a completely fresh start.

  • Delete your Google AI Studio conversation by opening the chat, clicking the menu icon, and selecting the delete option. This removes your system instructions and all generated content from AI Studio.
  • Revert your Payhip product descriptions by going to your Payhip dashboard, clicking your products, selecting each one, and pasting back your original descriptions. Save each product after editing.
