Automate Your Email Briefing with AI
Build an AI agent that reads your Gmail and delivers a daily briefing.
Introduction
30 Second Summary
Every morning you open your inbox to dozens of unread messages and have to figure out which ones actually need your attention. What if an AI agent could sort and summarize everything for you before you even sit down?
In this project, you will build an automated email briefing agent using Google Antigravity. Without writing a single line of code, you'll connect your Gmail to an AI that reads, categorizes, and summarizes your unread messages on a daily schedule.
What You'll Build
A personal email briefing agent powered by Google Antigravity that connects to your Gmail inbox and delivers a prioritized summary every morning.
By the end of this project, you'll have:
- A Gmail connection set up through Composio, a free service that handles the technical plumbing between your AI agent and your inbox.
- A custom Agent Skill file (plain text) that teaches the AI exactly how to organize and summarize your emails.
- A scheduled task that triggers your briefing automatically every morning without any manual effort.
- Secret Mission: Add Google Calendar awareness so your briefing flags emails from today's meeting attendees as high priority.
Are there any prerequisites?
You need a Gmail account and a Google AI Pro Plan (which includes access to Antigravity). You should also be comfortable editing text files on your computer. No coding experience is required.
Download and Set Up Antigravity
Before you can automate anything, you need the tool that makes it all possible. Google Antigravity is a free desktop application that gives you a personal AI agent you can chat with in plain English.
In this step, you'll download Antigravity, create a project folder for your automation files, and confirm everything is working by sending your first message.
In this step, get ready to:
- Download and install Google Antigravity 2.0.
- Create a project folder for your email briefing automation.
- Test that the AI agent responds to your messages.
Download and install Antigravity
Antigravity is a standalone app that runs on your computer. You download it from Google's website, run the installer, and sign in with your Google account.
- Open your web browser.
- Go to antigravity.google/download in the address bar.
- Click the Windows download button.
- Once the download finishes, double-click the installer file to run it.
- Follow the prompts in the installer.
- When asked whether to Keep Both or Replace, select Replace.
- Sign in with the same Google account you use for your AI Pro Plan.
Why select Replace?
If you had an older version of Antigravity on your machine, selecting Replace ensures you get the latest version with all the features this project uses (like Scheduled Tasks and Skills). If this is your first time installing, you may not see this prompt at all.
Install not starting?
Windows may show a security warning when you run the installer. Click More info, then Run anyway to proceed.
If the download page says your system is unsupported, confirm you are running Windows 10 (64-bit) or later.

Create a project in Antigravity
Antigravity organizes your work into projects. Each project points to a folder on your computer where your automation files will live.
- First, open File Explorer and navigate to your Desktop.
- Right-click in the empty space, select New, then Folder.
- Name the folder email-briefing and press Enter.
Now switch back to Antigravity to create the project.
- Click the folder icon with a "+" in the left sidebar.
- Click New Project.
- Click Add Folder.
- In the folder picker, navigate to your Desktop and select the email-briefing folder you just created.
- Click Select Folder.
- Click Create.
You should see your new project appear in the left sidebar with the name email-briefing.
Don't see the folder you created?
Make sure you navigate to your Desktop inside the folder picker dialog. The email-briefing folder should be visible there.
If you accidentally created the folder somewhere else, you can move it to your Desktop using File Explorer, then try Add Folder again.

Test that Antigravity is working
Time to confirm your AI agent is alive and responding. You'll send a quick test message in the chat.
- Click in the chat box at the bottom of the Antigravity window.
- Type Hello! What can you help me with? and press Enter.
- When prompted to choose a mode, select Local Mode.
You should see the AI agent respond with a helpful message describing what it can do.
What is Local Mode?
Antigravity offers two modes. Local Mode means the agent operates directly in the folders you add to your project. This is exactly what you want for building your email briefing automation.
The other option (New Worktree Mode) creates an isolated copy of your files. You do not need that for this project.
Agent not responding?
Make sure you are signed in with the Google account that has your AI Pro Plan. If you see a message about limits or access, double-check your account in the top-right corner of the Antigravity window.
If the chat box is grayed out, make sure you have the email-briefing project selected in the left sidebar.
help me get Google Antigravity to respond to my messages
Your AI agent is alive and ready to work. Next up, you'll connect it to your Gmail inbox so it can actually read your emails.
Connect Gmail Through Composio
Antigravity is installed and ready to chat. But right now, it has no way to access your Gmail inbox.
To give it that access, you'll use Composio. Composio is a free service that handles the connection between Antigravity and Gmail. Instead of setting up complex authentication yourself, you just click "Connect" and Composio handles the technical plumbing.
In this step, get ready to:
- Create a free Composio account and grab your API key.
- Connect your Gmail inbox to Composio.
- Configure Antigravity to use Composio's Gmail connection via MCP.
Create a Composio account and copy your API key
Composio needs an account so it can manage your Gmail connection securely. You'll also grab an API key, which is a unique code that lets Antigravity identify itself to Composio.
- Open your web browser and go to composio.dev.
- Click Get started for free.
- Sign in with your Google account (the same one you use for Gmail).
- Once logged in to the Composio dashboard, click Settings in the sidebar.
- In Project Settings, find the API Keys section.
- Copy your API key.
- Open Notepad and paste the key there for safekeeping. You'll need it shortly.
What is an API key?
An API key is like a password that lets one service talk to another. In this case, it lets Antigravity prove to Composio that it's authorized to use your Gmail connection.
You'll paste this key into Antigravity's settings in a later substep. Keep it private and don't share it publicly.
Connect Gmail to Composio
Now you'll tell Composio which Gmail account to connect. This authorizes Composio to read your emails on behalf of your AI agent.
- In the Composio dashboard, click Connect Apps in the sidebar.
- Search for Gmail.
- Click Connect.
- A Google sign-in window appears. Sign in with the Gmail account you want your briefing agent to read.
- Review the permissions and click Allow to approve read access.
You should see Gmail listed as a connected app in your Composio dashboard. The status shows it is active.
Why does Composio need read access?
Your AI agent needs to fetch your unread emails to summarize them. The read permission lets Composio pull email data on the agent's behalf. It cannot send, delete, or modify your emails with read-only access.
Google sign-in window didn't appear?
Check if your browser is blocking pop-ups. Look for a small blocked pop-up icon in the address bar and allow pop-ups from composio.dev. Then try clicking Connect again.

Add the Composio connection to Antigravity
Antigravity uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect to external services. You'll paste a small JSON configuration that tells Antigravity where to find your Composio connection.
- Switch back to Antigravity.
- Click the gear icon or go to Settings.
- Look for MCP or Customizations in the settings menu.
- Click to open the MCP config file.
Can't find the MCP section?
The exact label may vary. Look for MCP under Settings, or try Customizations and then Open MCP Config. Both paths open the same configuration file.
- Clear any existing content in the config file, then paste the following configuration:
{
"mcpServers": {
"remote-composio": {
"serverUrl": "https://connect.composio.dev/mcp",
"headers": {
"x-api-key": "your-composio-api-key-here"
}
}
}
}
What does this config do?
This tells Antigravity to connect to Composio's MCP server at https://connect.composio.dev/mcp. The x-api-key header is how Antigravity authenticates with your Composio account.
Once connected, Antigravity can use any app you've linked in Composio (like Gmail) without any additional setup.
- Find your-composio-api-key-here in the config and replace it with the API key you pasted into Notepad earlier.
- Save the config file.
- Close Antigravity completely and reopen it to restart.
When Antigravity reopens, the MCP connection to Composio is active. You won't see a dramatic change in the interface, but Antigravity can now reach your Gmail through Composio.
Antigravity not connecting to Composio?
Make sure the API key you pasted matches exactly what you copied from Composio's dashboard. Extra spaces or missing characters will break the connection.
Also check that the JSON formatting is correct. Every opening brace { needs a matching closing brace }, and all text values need quotation marks around them.

✔️ Awesome, I've got everything!
Great. Make sure you've saved the config file and fully restarted Antigravity before moving on.
ⓧ I'd like to double check the full code
Here is the complete MCP config file. Make sure yours matches exactly (with your own API key replacing the placeholder):
{
"mcpServers": {

"headers": {
"x-api-key": "your-composio-api-key-here"
}
}
}
}
Your AI agent now has a direct line to your Gmail inbox. Next up, you'll teach it exactly what to do with those emails by creating a custom Skill.
Create Your Email Briefing Skill
Your Gmail connection is live. Now it's time to teach the agent what to actually do with that access.
In Google Antigravity, an Agent Skill is a plain text file that gives your AI reusable instructions. You write it once, and the agent follows it every time it's triggered.
In this step, get ready to:
- Create the folder structure Antigravity expects for Skills.
- Write the Skill file with your email briefing instructions.
- Test the skill to confirm it generates a formatted briefing from your inbox.
Create the skill folder structure
Antigravity looks for Skills inside a specific folder path within your project. You need to create a set of nested folders so Antigravity can auto-discover your Skill.
- Open your email-briefing folder on your Desktop in File Explorer.
- Inside email-briefing, right-click in the empty space, select New, then click Folder.
- Name the new folder .agents (including the dot at the start). Press Enter to confirm.
- Double-click the .agents folder to open it.
- Inside .agents, create another new folder called skills.
- Double-click skills to open it.
- Inside skills, create one more folder called email-briefing.
Your final folder path should look like this: email-briefing\.agents\skills\email-briefing.
Why this specific folder structure?
Antigravity natively recognizes the .agents directory. Any Skill placed under .agents/skills/<skill_name>/SKILL.md is auto-discovered and registered by the agent. You don't need to configure anything else.
Can't see the .agents folder after creating it?
Folders starting with a dot are hidden by default on Windows. To reveal it, click the View tab at the top of File Explorer, then check the Hidden items checkbox in the Show/hide section. Your .agents folder will appear with a slightly faded icon.
Help me find and show hidden folders on Windows 10.
Write your SKILL.md file
A SKILL.md file is just a plain text file written in Markdown format. It tells the agent when to activate, what to do, and how to format the output.
- Open the innermost email-briefing folder (the one inside skills).
- Right-click in the empty space, select New, then click Text Document.
- Before renaming, make sure you can see file extensions. Click the View tab at the top of File Explorer and check the File name extensions checkbox.
- Rename the file to SKILL.md (make sure to remove the .txt ending entirely). Click Yes when Windows asks if you want to change the file extension.
- Right-click SKILL.md, select Open with, then choose Notepad.
- Paste the following skill instructions into the empty Notepad window:
---
name: email-briefing
description: Summarize and categorize unread emails into a concise daily briefing
---
# Email Briefing
## Use this skill when
- The user asks for an email summary or briefing
- A scheduled task triggers the daily email review
- The user says "briefing", "inbox summary", or "what emails do I have"
## Do not use this skill when
- The user wants to send or reply to specific emails
- The user needs to manage email labels or filters
- The user asks about a single specific email thread
## Instructions
1. Fetch unread emails from the inbox received in the last 24 hours using the Gmail tools.
2. For each email, extract:
- Sender name and address
- Subject line
- Date and time received
- A 1-2 sentence content summary
3. Categorize each email into one of these groups:
- **Action Required**: Emails that need a response or contain a task/deadline
- **Updates**: Status updates, notifications, and informational messages
- **Newsletters**: Marketing emails, digests, and subscription content
- **Other**: Anything that doesn't fit the above categories
4. Generate a formatted briefing with:
- A headline count (e.g., "14 unread emails: 4 action required, 6 updates, 3 newsletters, 1 other")
- Each category as a section with bullet points
- For "Action Required" emails, include a suggested next step
- Sort each category by most recent first
5. Save the briefing as a file named briefing-YYYY-MM-DD.md in the current project folder (use today's date).
6. Display the briefing contents in the chat as well.
What does this skill file do?
The --- block at the top is YAML frontmatter. It gives Antigravity the skill's name and a short description so it knows what this skill is for.
The "Use this skill when" and "Do not use this skill when" sections control when the agent activates the skill automatically. The Instructions section is the step-by-step recipe the agent follows every time it runs.
- Save the file in Notepad by pressing Ctrl+S.
- Close Notepad.
- Confirm the file is named SKILL.md (not SKILL.md.txt) in File Explorer.
File shows as SKILL.md.txt?
This means the .txt extension was not removed before you added .md. Right-click the file, select Rename, and delete the .txt part so only SKILL.md remains. Make sure File name extensions is checked in the View tab so you can see the full name.

6. Display the briefing contents in the chat as well.
Test your new skill
With the Skill file in place, Antigravity should detect it automatically. Time to see it in action.
- Switch back to the Antigravity window.
- Click in the chat box at the bottom.
- Type the following message and press Enter:
Use the email-briefing skill to generate my daily briefing
The agent should read your Gmail inbox, categorize your unread emails, and display a formatted summary in the chat.
What should I see?
You should see a response that starts with a headline count (like "8 unread emails: 2 action required, 4 updates, 1 newsletter, 1 other") followed by categorized bullet points for each email. The exact content depends on what's in your inbox right now.
The agent will also save a file called briefing- followed by today's date in your email-briefing project folder.
Agent doesn't recognize the skill?
Make sure the folder path is exactly .agents\skills\email-briefing\SKILL.md inside your project folder. The folder names are case-sensitive and must match exactly.
If the agent still doesn't find the skill, try closing and reopening Antigravity. It re-scans for skills on startup.
Help me troubleshoot why Antigravity can't find my email-briefing skill.
You just built your first AI Skill. Next up, you'll put it on autopilot so it runs every morning without you lifting a finger.
Schedule Your Daily Briefing
Your email briefing Skill works. You tested it, you saw the categorized summary, and the agent did all the heavy lifting. But right now, you still have to ask for it manually every morning.
The whole point of automation is removing yourself from the process. In this step, you'll use Antigravity's /schedule command to put your briefing on autopilot. Once it's scheduled, your agent will generate the briefing every weekday morning without you lifting a finger.
In this step, get ready to:
- Create a recurring scheduled task for your daily email briefing.
- Verify the task appears in Antigravity's Agent Manager view.
- Test the automation with a quick 5-minute trial run.
Schedule a recurring task with the /schedule command
Antigravity's /schedule command lets you run any instruction as a one-time timer in the future or on a recurring schedule. You type it directly in the chat box, followed by natural language describing when and what to run.
- In the Antigravity chat box, type the following command and press Enter:
/schedule every weekday at 8am use the email-briefing skill to generate my daily briefing
What does this command do?
The /schedule part tells Antigravity this is a scheduling instruction, not a regular prompt.
Everything after it is natural language. "Every weekday at 8am" defines the recurring schedule, and the rest is the prompt that runs each time. Antigravity creates a Scheduled Task that triggers your agent automatically at the specified time.
Change the time to fit your morning
You can replace "8am" with whatever time you want your briefing. Try "7:30am" or "9am" depending on when you start your day.
- You should see a confirmation message in the chat indicating the task has been scheduled.
No confirmation appeared?
Make sure you typed the / at the very beginning of the message. Without the slash, Antigravity treats it as a regular chat prompt instead of a scheduling command.
Also confirm that Antigravity is still connected to your project folder. If it disconnected, reopen the email-briefing project from the left sidebar.
Still stuck? Help me troubleshoot my /schedule command
Verify the task in Agent Manager
Once scheduled, your task lives in Antigravity's Agent Manager view. This is where you can see all your scheduled tasks, their next run times, and manage them.
- Look for the Scheduled Tasks area in Antigravity's Agent Manager view.
- You should see your briefing task listed with its schedule ("every weekday at 8am") and the next run time displayed.
What is the Agent Manager?
The Agent Manager is Antigravity's orchestration view. It shows you all active and scheduled agent tasks in a minimalist interface focused on conversations and artifacts. Think of it as your agent's control panel.
Don't see a Scheduled Tasks section?
The Agent Manager view may appear as a separate panel or mode in Antigravity. Look for a navigation option or icon that switches between the chat view and the Agent Manager view.
If your task still doesn't appear, try running the /schedule command again. A typo in the original command may have prevented it from registering.
Need help? Help me find my scheduled task in Antigravity
Test the automation with a 5-minute trial
Seeing the task listed is good, but the real test is watching it run by itself. You'll schedule a one-time test run for 5 minutes from now, then sit back and watch the agent produce a briefing without any input from you.
- In the Antigravity chat box, type the following command and press Enter:
/schedule in 5 minutes use the email-briefing skill to generate my briefing
What's different about this command?
This time you're scheduling a one-time event ("in 5 minutes") instead of a recurring schedule ("every weekday at 8am"). One-time scheduled tasks are capped at 15 minutes into the future. This is perfect for testing.
- Wait 5 minutes. Do not close Antigravity.
- After 5 minutes, the agent should automatically activate and produce an email briefing without you typing anything.
- You should see the same categorized email summary appear in the chat, plus a new briefing-YYYY-MM-DD.md file saved to your email-briefing project folder.
Agent didn't run after 5 minutes?
Make sure you didn't close or minimize Antigravity during the wait. The agent needs the app running to execute scheduled tasks.
If more than 5 minutes passed with no activity, try the command again. One-time timers are capped at 15 minutes, so double-check that you didn't accidentally type a longer delay.
Still not working? Help me figure out why my scheduled task didn't run
That's automation. Your agent just ran entirely on its own, fetched your emails, categorized them, and delivered a summary. Your recurring weekday task will do the same thing every morning at 8am.
Secret mission
Add Calendar Awareness
Your briefing already tells you which emails need action. But what if it could also flag emails from people you're meeting with today? In this secret mission, you'll connect Google Calendar to your agent and upgrade your Skill so it cross-references your schedule with your inbox.
Clean Up Your Resources
Clean Up Your Resources
This project runs on your existing Google AI Pro Plan and Composio's free tier, so there are no additional ongoing costs. Decide whether to keep your resources running, pause them to come back later, or delete them entirely.
Resources you used:
- Antigravity scheduled task (recurring daily briefing every weekday at 8am).
- Composio connected accounts (Gmail and Google Calendar connections).
- Antigravity MCP configuration (Composio server entry in the config file).
- Project folder (email-briefing on your Desktop).
- Google Antigravity app (installed on your computer).
Keep everything running
No action needed. Choose this if you're still actively building or want your daily briefing to keep running every morning.
- Your scheduled task continues to run every weekday at 8am.
- Your Composio account stays active on the free tier with no charges.
- Antigravity remains installed and ready for new projects.
Pause - I'll come back to this later
Stop the automation from running while keeping all your files and connections intact for later.
- In Antigravity, open the Agent Manager view and find your scheduled task.
- Delete the scheduled task so it stops running each morning.
- Keep your email-briefing folder and SKILL.md file on your Desktop. When you're ready to resume, recreate the schedule with the same /schedule command.
- Leave your Composio connections active. They cost nothing and will be ready when you return.
Delete - I don't want to use this again
Remove all project resources and start fresh. Follow each step below.
- In Antigravity, open the Agent Manager view and delete your scheduled briefing task.
- In your browser, go to composio.dev, sign in, and navigate to your Connected Accounts section.
- Find your Gmail and Google Calendar connections and disconnect them both.
- In Antigravity, go to Settings, find the MCP configuration, and remove the remote-composio server entry from the config file. Save the file.
- Delete your project folder by opening File Explorer, navigating to your Desktop, right-clicking the email-briefing folder, and selecting Delete.
- To uninstall Antigravity, open Windows Settings, select Apps, then Apps & features. Search for Google Antigravity, click it, and select Uninstall.
Nice Work!
Nice Work!
You just built your first AI automation. Every morning, your personal email briefing agent reads your Gmail, sorts messages by urgency, and delivers a clean summary of what needs your attention.
You've learned how to:
- Connected Google Antigravity to your Gmail through Composio's MCP integration, giving your AI agent access to real services without writing any code.
- Created a custom Agent Skill (a plain text SKILL.md file) that teaches your AI agent exactly how to categorize and summarize your inbox.
- Set up Scheduled Tasks so your email briefing runs every weekday morning without you lifting a finger.
- Added Google Calendar awareness to your briefing so it flags emails from today's meeting attendees as high priority.
The pattern you used applies to any automation: connect a service (MCP), teach the agent what to do (Skill), put it on autopilot (Schedule). You can now use this same approach to automate summaries of Slack messages, GitHub notifications, news feeds, or anything else with a Composio integration.
