Build a Product Launch Video with AI
Use an AI coding agent to create an animated product launch video with Remotion.
Introduction
30 Second Summary
Creating a polished product launch video usually means expensive software, hours of editing, and a steep learning curve. What if you could describe what you want and have an AI build it for you?
In this project, you will direct an AI coding agent to build a professional product launch video from scratch. You will prompt the agent step by step to create animated scenes, wire them together, and render a finished MP4 file.
What You'll Build
A 15-30 second animated product launch video with multiple scenes, built entirely by prompting an AI coding agent inside a Remotion project.
By the end of this project, you'll have:
- A complete Remotion video project with modular React components for each animated scene.
- Multiple animated scenes orchestrated with Remotion's Sequence system, including a brand intro, feature callouts, and a CTA outro.
- A rendered MP4 file ready to share on social media or embed on a landing page.
- A reusable prompt library you can customize for future videos without starting from scratch.
- Secret Mission: Layer animated overlay graphics on top of your own screen recording or video clip.
Are there any prerequisites?
None. This guide includes full setup instructions for every tool you need. You do not need prior experience with coding, React, or video editing.
Install Your Tools
Before you can create your video, you need three tools on your machine.
Node.js runs the video engine. A coding agent (either Claude Code or OpenCode) writes all the code for you based on your prompts. And VS Code gives you a place to browse and tweak what the agent creates.
In this step, get ready to:
- Install Node.js and verify it works.
- Install and authenticate your AI coding agent.
- Install VS Code and open the integrated terminal.
Install Node.js
Node.js is the JavaScript runtime that powers Remotion's video engine. Without it, none of the video rendering tools can run.
- Open your browser and go to nodejs.org.
- Click the LTS download button (the version labeled "Recommended For Most Users").
- Open the downloaded .pkg file and follow the installer prompts, accepting the defaults.
Now let's verify the installation worked.
- Press Cmd+Space to open Spotlight search.
- Type Terminal and press Enter to open it.
- Check your Node.js version by running this command:
node --version
- Check your npm version by running:
npm --version
✔️ I see version numbers
You should see something like v24.15.0 for Node and 10.x.x for npm. The exact numbers may differ as long as you have an LTS version.
Node.js is ready. Move on to the next substep.
ⓧ Command not found
If Terminal says "command not found", the installer may not have finished or your shell needs to reload.
- Close Terminal completely and reopen it.
- Run node --version again.
- If it still does not work, re-run the installer from nodejs.org and make sure it completes without errors.

Install your coding agent
The coding agent is the AI that writes all the video code for you. You type prompts describing what you want, and the agent generates the React components that become your video.
You have two options. Pick one based on your situation.
Claude Code ($20/month)
Claude Code requires a Claude Pro subscription ($20/month). It has the tightest integration with Remotion's built-in Skills system.
- Install Claude Code by running this command in Terminal:
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
What does this command do?
This downloads and runs the Claude Code installer script. It adds the claude command to your Terminal.
- Once the install finishes, start Claude Code by running:
claude
- Follow the sign-in prompts that appear in your Terminal.
- Sign in with your Claude Pro account.
You should see a welcome message with a prompt cursor. Claude Code is ready. Type /exit to close it for now.
Having trouble signing in?
Make sure you have an active Claude Pro subscription at claude.ai before attempting to sign in. The free tier does not include Claude Code access.
help me troubleshoot Claude Code sign-in issues
OpenCode (free option available)
OpenCode is a free, open-source coding agent. It can use free models via OpenCode Zen, or you can connect your own API key from any provider.
- Install OpenCode by running this command in Terminal:
curl -fsSL https://opencode.ai/install | bash
What does this command do?
This downloads and runs the OpenCode installer script. It adds the opencode command to your Terminal.
- Start OpenCode by running:
opencode
- Once OpenCode opens, type /connect to set up your AI provider.
- Select OpenCode Zen for free models, or choose your own provider and paste your API key.
You should see a confirmation that your provider is connected. OpenCode is ready. Type /exit to close it for now.
Connection issues?
If OpenCode Zen is unavailable, try selecting a different provider. You can always reconfigure later with /connect.

Why a coding agent for video?
Remotion builds videos from React code. Instead of learning React and Remotion's APIs yourself, a coding agent handles all the code generation. You focus on directing the creative output through prompts.
Remotion includes built-in "Skills" files that teach the agent its animation primitives and best practices. Both Claude Code and OpenCode can read these Skills.
Install VS Code
VS Code is a code editor that lets you browse the files your coding agent creates. You will use its integrated terminal to run commands alongside your agent.
✔️ I already have VS Code
Great. Skip ahead to opening the integrated terminal below.
ⓧ I need to install it
- Open your browser and go to code.visualstudio.com.
- Click the Download for macOS button.
- Open the downloaded .zip file and drag Visual Studio Code into your Applications folder.
Now open VS Code and its integrated terminal.
- Press Cmd+Space to open Spotlight search.
- Type Visual Studio Code and press Enter to open it.
- Press Cmd+` (backtick key, above Tab) to open the integrated terminal.
You should see a terminal panel appear at the bottom of the VS Code window. This is where you will run most commands going forward.
Don't see the terminal panel?

Your toolbox is ready. Next up, you will scaffold a Remotion video project and fire up the live preview studio.
Scaffold Your Remotion Project
Your tools are installed and ready. Now it is time to create the actual video project you will be working in for the rest of this guide.
Remotion uses a scaffold command that generates a full project folder with everything configured. You will run this command, start a live preview server, and then connect your coding agent so it can begin editing the project files.
In this step, get ready to:
- Create a Remotion video project using the scaffold command.
- Start the Remotion Studio dev server to preview your video in real time.
- Launch your coding agent in a second terminal, connected to the project.
Create your Remotion project
The npx create-video@latest command launches an interactive setup wizard that asks you a few questions about your project. It then generates all the files and configuration you need.
- Open Terminal by pressing Cmd+Space and typing Terminal, then press Enter.
- Move to your Desktop by running this command:
cd ~/Desktop
- Scaffold your Remotion project by running this command:
npx create-video@latest
What happens next?
This command launches an interactive text UI with several prompts. You will answer each one in the next few bullets.
- When asked for a project name, type my-launch-video and press Enter.
- When asked to select a template, choose Blank and press Enter.
- When asked about TailwindCSS, select yes and press Enter.
- When asked about installing Skills, select yes and press Enter.
What are Skills?
Skills are instruction files that live in your project's .claude/skills/ folder. They teach your coding agent how Remotion works, including its animation primitives, composition model, and rendering commands.
Even though the folder is named .claude, both Claude Code and OpenCode can read these files. The better your agent understands Remotion, the better video code it writes.
- Confirm the project was created by running:
ls
You should see a my-launch-video folder in the output.
Don't see the folder?
Make sure you ran cd ~/Desktop before the scaffold command. If the folder ended up somewhere else, you can find it with find ~ -name my-launch-video -type d and move it to your Desktop.
If the scaffold command itself failed, check that Node.js is installed by running node --version. You need at least Node 16.

Install dependencies and start the dev server
Your project folder exists, but it still needs its packages installed. After that, you will start the Remotion Studio preview server so you can see your video as you build it.
- Navigate into your project and install its dependencies by running these commands:
cd my-launch-video
npm install
What does npm install do?
This reads the package.json file in your project and downloads all the libraries Remotion needs to run. It creates a node_modules folder with those packages.
- Start the Remotion Studio dev server by running:
npm run dev
Remotion Studio opens automatically in your browser. You should see a blank canvas with playback controls at the bottom.
What is Remotion Studio?
Remotion Studio is a local preview tool that runs in your browser. It shows your video frame-by-frame with a timeline and playback controls.
When your coding agent edits source files, the Studio hot-reloads instantly. This creates a tight feedback loop where you prompt a change and immediately see the result.
Browser didn't open?
If the browser did not open automatically, look at the terminal output for a URL (usually http://localhost:3000). Copy and paste it into your browser manually.
If you see an error about a port already in use, another process is running on that port. Close it or wait for the terminal to suggest an alternative port.
help me fix the Remotion Studio dev server not starting
Start your coding agent in a second terminal
The dev server needs to keep running in your current terminal. You need a second terminal tab so your coding agent can operate alongside it.
- Open a new terminal tab by pressing Cmd+T.
- Navigate to your project folder by running:
cd ~/Desktop/my-launch-video
- Start your coding agent.
Claude Code
- Launch Claude Code by running:
claude
Claude Code starts and shows a prompt where you can type instructions. It already has access to all the files in your project, including the Skills folder.
OpenCode
- Launch OpenCode by running:
opencode
OpenCode starts and shows its TUI. It can read the .claude/skills/ folder just like Claude Code, so it knows how Remotion works.
You now have two terminals running side by side. Terminal 1 runs your preview server. Terminal 2 runs your AI coding agent, ready to accept prompts.
Agent not starting?
Make sure you are inside the my-launch-video folder. Run pwd to confirm your current directory ends with /my-launch-video.
For Claude Code, make sure you are signed in to a Claude Pro account. For OpenCode, confirm you ran /connect and set up a provider in Step 1.
help me get my coding agent running in the project directory
Your workspace is locked and loaded. You have a live video preview and an AI agent ready to take direction. Next up, you will prompt your first animated scene into existence.
Prompt Your First Scene
Your Remotion Studio is live and your coding agent is waiting for instructions. Now comes the creative part: describing your brand intro scene and letting the AI build it for you.
A good prompt for a coding agent includes specific visual details: colors, sizes, timing, and animation behavior. The more concrete your description, the closer the first result lands to your vision.
In this step, get ready to:
- Send a structured prompt to your coding agent describing a 5-second brand intro scene.
- Preview the result in Remotion Studio and give follow-up refinement prompts.
- Iterate until the intro looks great, and save your best prompt patterns for reuse.
Send your first scene prompt
Your coding agent understands natural language, but structured prompts produce better results. You will give it a detailed description of your intro scene including resolution, colors, text, font sizes, and animation behavior.
- In your coding agent's terminal (the second tab where you ran claude or opencode), enter the following prompt. Customize the bracketed values to match your product:
Create a 5-second intro scene for a product launch video.
- Resolution: 1920x1080, 30fps
- Dark background (use [[BRAND_BG="your background color, e.g. #0a0a0a"]])
- The product name "[[PRODUCT_NAME="Your Product Name"]]" appears center screen
- Text color: [[BRAND_ACCENT="your brand accent color, e.g. #00FF88"]]
- Font size: 80px, use a clean sans-serif font
- Animate the text in with a spring animation (scale from 0 to 1)
- After the text settles, fade in a tagline below: "[[PRODUCT_TAGLINE="Your tagline"]]"
- Tagline: 24px, white, fades in 1 second after the title
Why structure the prompt this way?
Each bullet gives the agent one specific instruction it can act on. The resolution and fps tell the agent how to configure the Remotion composition. The colors and font sizes give exact CSS values. The animation description tells it which Remotion primitive to use (spring() for the scale animation).
The agent reads the Remotion Skills files in your project's .claude/skills/ folder. These teach it Remotion's API patterns like useCurrentFrame(), interpolate(), and Sequence. Your prompt gives it the creative direction. The Skills give it the technical know-how.
- Press Enter to send the prompt. The agent begins writing code. You will see it creating files and explaining its work in the terminal.
- Wait for the agent to finish. It typically creates a React component file (like src/BrandIntro.tsx) and registers a composition in src/index.ts.
What is a composition?
A composition in Remotion is like a video timeline definition. It declares the width, height, frame rate, and duration of a video, then points to the React component that renders each frame. Your agent registers one so Remotion Studio knows what to preview.
Agent asking for permission or clarification?
Some agents ask permission before creating or editing files. If you see a confirmation prompt, type yes or y to allow it. If the agent asks a clarifying question, answer with more detail about what you want.
help me debug why my coding agent isn't creating files
Preview and refine your scene
When the agent saves its changes, Remotion Studio hot-reloads instantly. Switch to your browser to see the result.
- Switch to your browser where Remotion Studio is open.
- You should see your intro scene instead of the blank canvas. Use the playback controls at the bottom to play the 5-second animation.
- Watch for: the product name scaling in with a spring bounce, and the tagline fading in about 1 second later.
Something not quite right? That is completely normal. The first result is your starting point, not your final product.
- Switch back to your coding agent terminal and give it a follow-up prompt to adjust what you see. Here are examples of effective follow-up prompts:
Make the title larger, around 100px
Change the background to a gradient from #1a1a2e to #0a0a0a
Add a subtle glow effect around the text
Small, specific adjustments work best
Each follow-up prompt should change one thing. "Make it better" gives the agent nothing to work with. "Increase the spring damping so the bounce is subtler" gives it a precise instruction it can execute confidently.
- After each follow-up, switch to Remotion Studio to see the update. The hot-reload happens within seconds of the agent saving the file.
Studio not updating?
Make sure your dev server (first terminal tab) is still running. If you accidentally closed it, run npm run dev again in that tab. Also check that the agent finished its work. Look for a done or ready message in the agent's output.
help me figure out why Remotion Studio isn't showing my changes
Iterate until the intro feels right
Professional motion design is iterative. Directors go through multiple rounds of feedback with their editors. You are doing the same thing, just with an AI editor that responds in seconds.
- Send 2-3 more follow-up prompts to refine your intro scene. Focus on whatever stands out to you: timing, colors, animation speed, text positioning, or adding new elements.
- After each iteration, preview the full 5 seconds in Remotion Studio using the play button.
- When you are satisfied with the intro, note which prompts produced the results you liked best. These are the beginnings of your reusable prompt library.
What makes a reusable prompt pattern?
A reusable prompt pattern is any prompt structure that consistently produces good results when you swap in different values. For example, your intro prompt is a pattern: change the product name, colors, and tagline, and you get a completely different branded intro. Keep these templates somewhere you can find them later.
- Verify your project structure by opening VS Code and checking the Explorer sidebar. You should see a file like src/BrandIntro.tsx (or similarly named) that the agent created. The src/index.ts file should now have a composition registered for your intro scene.
What did the agent actually create?
The agent built a React component that renders each frame of your animation. It uses Remotion's useCurrentFrame() to know which frame is being rendered, and spring() to calculate the scale value for the bouncy title animation.
It also registered a composition in src/index.ts that tells Remotion: this video is 1920x1080 at 30fps and lasts 150 frames (5 seconds). That is what makes it appear in the Studio sidebar.
Your brand intro is locked in. Next up, you will prompt the agent to build a feature callout scene that highlights what makes your product special.
Add Feature Callout Scenes
Your brand intro looks polished and professional. Now it is time to show off what your product actually does.
In this step, you will prompt the coding agent to build a feature callout scene. This scene displays your product's top features one at a time with staggered animations, then you will wire both scenes together into a single composition.
In this step, get ready to:
- Prompt your coding agent to create a feature callout scene with 3 animated highlights.
- Preview and iterate on timing, spacing, and animation style.
- Wire the intro and features scenes into a single 13-second composition.
Prompt the agent for your feature callout scene
Your intro grabs attention, but viewers need to know what the product does. A feature callout scene solves this by presenting your top features with eye-catching sequential animations.
- In the terminal tab running your coding agent, enter this prompt (customize the bracketed values with your own product features):
Add a new scene after the intro that shows 3 feature highlights.
- Each feature appears one at a time, staying for 2 seconds each
- Use Remotion's Sequence component for timing
- Each feature has:
- An emoji icon on the left: [[FEATURE_EMOJIS="e.g., ⚡, 🎯, 🚀"]]
- A bold title: [[FEATURE_TITLES="e.g., Lightning Fast, Precise Targeting, Ship Faster"]]
- A one-line description below in lighter text
- Animate each feature sliding in from the right with a spring
- Use the same dark background and brand colors from the intro
- Total scene duration: 8 seconds
What makes this prompt effective?
This prompt gives the agent clear constraints: exact timing (2 seconds per feature), a specific animation direction (from the right), and a reference to existing styling (same dark background and brand colors). The more specific your constraints, the fewer iterations you need.
The agent uses Remotion's Sequence component to time each feature's entrance. Sequence is a scheduling tool that says "start this animation at frame X."
- Wait for the agent to finish creating the component.
- Switch to your browser and check Remotion Studio. You should see a new composition appear in the left sidebar.
Don't see the new scene in Studio?
Make sure the agent saved all files. Check that Remotion Studio did not show any red error banners at the top of the preview. If you see an error, copy the error message and paste it back to the agent with: "I'm seeing this error: [paste error]. Please fix it."
Help me troubleshoot why my feature callout scene is not appearing
Preview and refine your feature animations
The first version rarely looks perfect. This is where the iterative prompting workflow shines. You can tweak spacing, animation curves, and layout just by describing what you want.
- Play the feature scene in Remotion Studio using the playback controls at the bottom of the preview.
- Watch how each feature animates in. Note anything that feels off.
- Give the agent follow-up prompts to adjust the result. Here are common refinements:
Add more spacing between the icon and text
Make the animations stagger more dramatically
Add a subtle background pattern or grid
Change the slide-in to come from the bottom instead
Save prompts that work well
When a follow-up prompt produces a result you love, copy it into a notes file. These become your reusable prompt patterns for future videos. Over time, you build a personal library of video effects you can remix.
- Iterate 2-3 times until each feature animates smoothly and the layout looks balanced.
- Confirm that all three features are visible and readable when played back at normal speed.
Wire both scenes into a single composition
Right now your intro and features might be registered as separate compositions in Remotion Studio. You need them playing back-to-back as a single video.
- Prompt the agent to combine both scenes into one composition:
Make sure the intro plays first for 5 seconds, then the features scene plays for 8 seconds. The total composition should be 13 seconds so far.
What is the agent doing here?
The agent updates your src/index.ts file to register a main composition that includes both scenes. It uses Remotion's Sequence component to place the BrandIntro at frames 0-150 and the FeatureCallouts at frames 150-390.
At 30fps, 150 frames equals 5 seconds and 240 frames equals 8 seconds. The total 390 frames gives you exactly 13 seconds of video.
- In Remotion Studio, select the combined composition from the left sidebar.
- Press play and watch the full 13-second preview from start to finish.
- Confirm that the intro plays smoothly for 5 seconds, then transitions directly into the feature callouts for 8 seconds.
Seeing a black gap between scenes?
A black frame between scenes means the Sequence timing has a gap. Tell the agent: "There's a black gap between the intro and features scenes. Make sure the features Sequence starts immediately after the intro ends at frame 150 with no gap."
Help me fix the timing gap between my scenes
Your video now has a compelling intro and informative feature highlights. Next up, you will add a call-to-action outro and render the entire thing into a shareable MP4 file.
Create the CTA Outro and Render
Your video now has a punchy intro and a set of animated feature callouts. Two scenes down, one to go.
Every good video ends with a clear call to action. In this step, you'll prompt the agent to build a closing scene, verify the full composition plays smoothly, and render the final MP4.
In this step, get ready to:
- Prompt a CTA outro scene with fade-in and fade-to-black animations.
- Verify all three scenes play end-to-end without timing gaps.
- Render the full composition to an MP4 file.
Prompt the CTA outro scene
The closing scene gives viewers a single, clear next step. A short fade-in followed by a fade-to-black creates a polished ending.
- In your coding agent terminal, enter this prompt to create the CTA outro scene (customize the bracketed values to match your product):
Add a closing call-to-action scene after the features.
- Duration: 4 seconds
- Center a large CTA text: "[[YOUR_CTA="Your CTA, e.g., Try it free at yoursite.com"]]"
- Animate it fading in with a slight upward drift
- After 2 seconds, fade everything to black
- Keep the same brand styling
- The full video should now be: intro (5s) + features (8s) + CTA (4s) = 17 seconds total
What does this prompt do?
You are asking the agent to create a new React component (likely CTAOutro.tsx) and wire it into the main composition after the features scene.
The "fade everything to black" instruction tells the agent to animate opacity to zero at the end. This gives your video a professional sign-off instead of an abrupt cut.
- Watch Remotion Studio hot-reload with the new scene.
- Scrub through the timeline to confirm the CTA text appears and fades to black.
CTA scene not appearing?
If the timeline still shows 13 seconds, the agent may not have updated the total duration of your main composition. Tell the agent: "Update the main composition's durationInFrames to 510 (17 seconds at 30fps) and add the CTA scene from frame 390 to 510."
If the CTA text is invisible, it may be the same color as the background. Tell the agent: "Make the CTA text white so it's visible against the dark background."
Help me fix my CTA scene
If the fade timing or text size feels off, iterate with a follow-up prompt. For example: "Make the CTA text bigger" or "Start the fade-to-black at 2.5 seconds instead of 2."
Verify the full composition end-to-end
Before rendering, you want to confirm all three scenes flow together without timing gaps or overlaps.
- Ask the agent to verify the timing by entering this prompt:
Play through the full composition in the Studio and make sure all three scenes transition smoothly. Fix any timing gaps or overlaps.
What is the agent checking?
The agent inspects the frame ranges in src/index.ts to confirm: intro runs from frame 0-150 (5s), features from frame 150-390 (8s), and CTA from frame 390-510 (4s). If any range is misconfigured, it fixes it.
- In Remotion Studio, click the play button to watch the full 17-second composition from start to finish.
- Confirm you see: brand intro with spring animation, then feature callouts appearing one by one, then the CTA text fading in and the whole screen fading to black.
Seeing a jump or gap between scenes?
A black flash between scenes usually means there is a frame gap. Tell the agent: "There is a gap between the features and CTA scene. Make sure the CTA starts on the exact frame after features end, with no empty frames in between."
Help me fix scene transitions
Render the final MP4
Your video looks great in the Studio preview. Time to export it as an MP4 file you can share anywhere.
- Ask the agent to render the video by entering this prompt:
Render the full composition to an MP4 file in the out folder.
What happens during rendering?
The agent runs a command like npx remotion render src/index.ts [CompositionName] out/launch-video.mp4. This processes every frame of your composition and encodes them into a single MP4 file.
Rendering takes longer than preview playback because it writes each frame to disk. For a 17-second video, expect 30-90 seconds depending on your machine.
- Wait for the render to complete. You will see a progress indicator in the terminal.
- Confirm the file exists by running:
ls out/
- You should see launch-video.mp4 listed in the output.
- Open the file to watch your finished video by running:
open out/launch-video.mp4
Your default video player opens with the completed product launch video. Watch it through from the brand intro to the final fade-to-black.
Render failed or file is missing?
If the agent reports a render error, it is usually a missing composition ID. Tell the agent: "List all registered compositions and render the main one to out/launch-video.mp4."
If the out/ folder is empty, make sure the render command finished without interruption. Check for error messages in the terminal output and share them with the agent.
